Day Nine #12DaysofColor!
Yeah! we are in the home stretch now!! Today is Day Nine of the 12 Days of Color! With today’s post, we bid goodbye to Jug or Not and bring in the third collection by the people at Michael Miller, Blue and White. Oh, and I thought that I should clarify something a bit with the Michael Miller lines. Many of you may already know this, but some don’t; I can tell by the comments. Michael Miller is not an actual person. The company Michael Miller is the brain child of Kathy Miller and Michael Steiner who started the company years ago from a rented space in NYC years ago. Recently I found out that Kathy got married and is now living in California, while Michael still resides in NYC where there offices are still located. So when I was talking about Jug or Not from Michael Miller, I meant the company not an actual designer. For all of their non-licensed prints, I think Kathy has a team of in-house people that she oversees on those. And Kathy is the one who rules on the color portions I think. Now Wee Wander was a licensed line by Sarah Jane, so that is all Sarah’s creativity. I just saw which line I should have brought in from Michael Miller for this project, and I don’t know how I missed it, but look at Stitches. Those look like great blenders, don’t they?!
Also yesterday, Mara’s comment gave me quite a scare, so I had to check with my friend, Lissa, over at Moda, if they were indeed getting rid of Grunge. The thought sent shivers down my spine, I love that stuff (when I was at Sisters, last summer, one of my students brought in a big hunk of one of the grey grunge. I loved it so much, right after class I went downtown and picked a big chunk of it up…..Linda saw it when I got home, and rolled her eyes big time! She doesn’t get my love for the “gritty” stuff.) Anyway, Lissa reassured me that Grunge is NOT going away, in fact they are bringing in more colors next year (it is almost Next Year now! YEAH! More Grunge!)
Okay now onto the blocks for today. Today’s block is by Kimberly Einmo. Her interview with Pat Sloan is here. And the directions for Kimberly’s block are here.
Here is the Kona block done up in — in Bluegrass and Cedar:
Here is the third (and sadly last) Jenean Morrison True Colors from Free Spirit Block (I really wish that I had more time to talk about each of the wonderful designers for these True Colors lines, I know each of them individually, though not as well as I would like, but I can tell you this….they are all truly amazingly talented and wonderfully sweet people, each and every one of them!) (oh, and looking at this block now, I could have fussy-cut those rectangles in the center, but I didn’t even think about it when I was making it!):
Here is the first Blue And White From Michael Miller Block:
Here is the Grunge From Moda block:
And here are the Aurifil threads of the day (2110 and 2250):
So again, if you’ve been following this series, you know what to do! Comment here for the daily prizes as well as making yourself eligible for the grand prizes at the end of the series. If you just jumped in the fray, be sure to comment on every day of the 12 Days of Color to be entered in to win the large and small prizes. Your comment can be about anything in the post, this general time of year, your garden, your New Year’s resolutions, whatever.
I will likely be drawing names New Year’s Day as well as taking down the Christmas Festivus Stuff. So make sure to get all of your comments in by then! I promise that I will get the packages out before the US Post Office raises their rates (great incentive!). Now back to sewing…Almost there, almost there…..
I love the colors in the True Colors block, and the Grunge block is fabulous (and I am happy to hear that they are coming out with more colors!)
I love love love the blue and white block. The fussy cut lady in the center is so cute and perfect for this block.
Thanks for the info about Michael Miller et al. I am in total awe of fabric designers and the huge variety of designs that are out there! They make a fabric lover’s life truly heaven (and “hellish”—not enough money, time, space etc). But oh so fun to dream! I am professing my love of the grunge blck today…but I am fickle!
I like them all, esp. the ones with the sharper edges from the solids or almost solids. Great block to play with. So glad that Grunge isn’t going away. I still have trouble playing with only solids, so I depend on the fabrics like Grunge to be the bridge! There’s just something about a textured ‘solid’ that I will choose every time if I have a choice between that a true solid fabric.
The US PO are putting up their prices again? I love the True colours block most today. I don’t have any grunge but maybe I need some. 🙂
This time I really liked the grunge!
Wow! Loving the Michael Miller Blue and White, it looks great in that block 🙂
All of the blocks are fabulous today, but Grunge is still my favorite. I have a hard time putting solids together to look good, but your blocks always look fantastic. I think I need to add more to my stash, especially the Grunge. It is a rainy, dreary day where I live today-perfect for sewing so back in the sewing room I go. Have a great sewing day yourself!
I am so sorry to give you a scare, I was scared too, I looked up where I thought I saw the info and I guess it is the Moda Crossweave, that is going out? I really like the Stitches Square, what a really awesome low volume fabric that would be to have on hand.
Don’t know about the Crossweave, Stitches square? Do you mean the Blue and White? I mentioned Stitches in the post, but only that I had not seen it before I started up this big adventure….
Yes I meant the Stitches that you mentioned above, I had not seen them either, I think they would have been very cool to play with compared to Jug or Not.
I think I am still a ‘grunge’ fan but I also really like the blue and white square….What will you do with all these when you finish the 12 days?
Wow i can see why you like the grunge! Your blue/ white block has to be my favorite so far actually all of them are!
Janice Mc Laren
I’m not really a blue person, but my fav today is the blue and white block. It just has a really clean look.
I still like the Kona Solids block. They really show off the block. I like the Michael Miller Blue and White block, too. Thanks for the information on Michael Miller and I think their Stitches line make great blenders, too.
My goodness! You outdid yourself with the colors today! Gorgeous blocks! The free spirit one looks like a candy store and your blue and white Asian style block is awesome. Thanks for sharing all your talent and efforts.
Just checked out your website after looking at the offerings for Sister’s 2014 Quilters Affair classes. I really like the “Painted Forest” and “Beauty in the Bark” projects!! This information about the manufacturers is interesting and I learned something about “Grunge.” Didn’t think I’d like it but it adds an element of dimension that enhances the block. Good job!

Am truly enjoying this series. The most recent block using Kona has got to be my favorite so far. Looking forward to the finale!
Cool blocks. Thanks for the chance to win.

Hands down, Blue and White is the winning block for me today. I’m a grunge fan too, so glad to hear more colors are coming.
Wow, I love all of today’s blocks! I especially like the Asian feel of Blue and White. Very nice!

Thanks for the info about Michael Miller, I thought ‘he’ was a person. Something new to learn every day.
missed some because of christmas but love this
A big YES to all blocks today. Love all the color combos.
Love the Free Spirit Block and the Grunge block, so tonight it’s a draw between the prints and the solids.
Waiting for our son to come in from Italy tonight. It will be so good to see him, haven’t seen him in 2 years.
So Christmas is continuing in our house!
The Grungs and the True Colors are so different but both so absolutely perfect. I feel like I’m learning so much every day.
Stitches awesome.. yes I need some. I like them for they remind me of some of Ty penningtons blenders, it reminds me of the 70’s the era where I hung out at the beach in cut offs…….hhhmmm.
Love the grunge!!!
Love this block in Grunge!
Susan the farm quilter
Still loving Grunge, but that MM blue is yummy too (nice fussy cutting!).
I like this block. The blue & white one is pretty with the center fussy cut. My favorite is Grunge because it shows off the block so well. I like the new Stitches. Some of those colors are waiting to join my stash.

Glad to hear that Grunge is not going away-I love it.
Wow, I don’t know how I have missed the Grunge fabric line, I Love it!! Like especially the colors in this block.
You just might be making me a grunge convert. I think a quilt in that line would be a great choice for a teen’s quilt. Hmmm…. I have a teen…
Loving the grunge block today. I need to get stamps before they go up.
Love the fussy cut center block of the Blue and White. Not expected to get out of below zero temps today and that’s not counting the wind chill factor.
The blue and white from Michael Miller is just beautiful. I love Micheal Miller fabrics.
I love the grunge block – I really must find some here in the UK!!
Thanks for the info on Michael Miller. LOVE the Blue and White. Great use of the prints in that group.
All the blocks are fabulous today. You are right about the stitches fabric it definitely would make a great blender fabric. I am adding that to my list along with buying some of the grunge fabric.
love the block today done in only 2 solids. It gives it quite a different look. I have to admit that I’ve never been partial to the grunge line, but it’s growing on me as I see you use the colours together. I really like the subtle shading it seems to offer.
I am sooo loving that grunge 🙂 Looks like you are really having fun!
Thanks for your interesting post, there is lots to know and learn. Love the blue and white block today and Grunge is a close second.
I have several colors of Stitches on my wishlist now, thank you!
This block in Grunge is fantastic!!! I love those fabric choices
Blue and white is singing to me. Thanks for the info on Michael miller fabric.
The Blue & White is stunning, I must say. Love my Grunge though, every day!

They are all beautiful, but I love the Blue and White block. It is just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing!
Once again. I love the blue and white block since I collect blue and white pottery. Thanks, Kathy
I am so glad you followed up in Grunge. My sisters and I have just started picking up some of this and it works so well with our prints.
I can’t believe how much I am liking the Grunge
I didn’t realize the PO is raising the rates again. I guess I better find out what they are going to, AND try and get my January blocks done and shipped soon. At least most of the stamps I own are flat rate.
GRUNGE!! Gorgeous! And the blue Michael Miller! Stunning!
Loving the prizes
Love the last block colors – grunge from moda. Very nice.
I love the moda grunge fabrics
great looking blocks and prizes 🙂
I like this block — looks like you could do lots of different things with it.
I like that block, I don’t think I have ever made one of those before.
True Colors is awesome, favorite block and Aurifil colors!
Festivus! I totally forgot about that Seinfeld episode…hysterical. Your Blue and White block is beautiful!
The block with the fussy cut center is my favorite in this set. It seems just perfect.
I really love the blue & white block! The others are really nice, too!
Oh yeah! Lovin the Grunge for sure! I’m designing a wall hanging for the Moda Bake Shop with Grunge – it’s so pretty and versatile… Awesome stuff Scott.
The True Colors block is so pretty, I like lots of colour and pattern.
I love the grunge line of fabrics! I have really been enjoying seeing the blocks you make with the fabrics…the fabrics go together so well!
Blue and white block with the fussy cut centre is my favorite!
Love those grunge colors today, looking forward to the new colors being released in 2014
Love the grunge; it looks painterly!
The Kona colors are a bit too much for me……but I love the other 3- especially the grunge!
Love the Kona best this time!
I love the fussy cut on the Blue and White block. That one is definitely my favorite of this set.
The way the Kona turned out really makes me think of the PNW. Screams, “Totem!” to me for some reason. Odd why certain things strike you in a certain way; huh?
Great block to use to fussy cut a fabric such as the Michael Miller.
Love the grunge – it’s so soothing!
Gorgeous thread colors too..
love the michael miller blue and white
Love all the blocks, especially the blue and white.
I’m new to quilting. I was inspired by the arrival of my first grandchild in September. I’ve made her 7 baby quilts I think and made another 3 lap quilts to give away to friends and family. I’m finally working on one for me. I absolutely love looking at fabric and planning a new quilt. I can’t wait to get done with this one because I have the next 2 in my head trying to get out!!
