Pat Sloan’s Holiday Book Tour!

Pat Sloan’s Holiday Book Tour!

Today is my spot on the Book Tour for my friend Pat Sloan‘s Holiday Celebrations book! So many great projects in it – some for every season!  I had a hard time just picking one project to work on. I actually couldn’t, I had to pick two!

I started off with the Spooky Twist project  that Pat created for Halloween, but I wanted to do it in Christmas scraps of which I have a TON!

Here is Pat’s Version:

And here is mine:

This went together super easy and super fast… so this made me think I could do another project that really caught my eye.

The Liberty Hill quilt is a little more traditional than my usual fare, but I found the stars Pat designed quite intriguing and I loved the ‘feathered’ border. I was planning on doing it in more Christmas Scraps but then I found the Willow line from Windham Fabrics (which is hitting the stores soon!) and fell in love with the beachy colors, which just happened to be similar to  Pat’s original quilt.

So here they both are:

Pat’s version:

And here is my version:

I was super excited to take these pix just down the road from our new home. Aren’t the colors perfect together?

I feel  like I should call my version “My Favorite Color is Red” I LOVE that little Red scrap that I added to this basically two color quilt. That bit Definitely makes this MY version, don’t you think?

Now on to the fun part…..

I love that red/green quilt! My all time favorite holiday is Halloween. Cool crisp air, autumn colored leaves, fat round pumpkins, the best part of all has to Trick or Treating. As my son said at three years old in an incredulous voice, “I knock on the door, I ring da bell, dem give me candy!” He was all in, up and out of bed the next morning, dressed in his Tiger suit ready to get back out there!

I have to smile at that spark of red. My partner has always said I should have a “signature” and put a piece of red in every quilt top–no matter what it looks like, regardless of its color scheme or pattern. I have resisted, but I absolutely love the way your one non-conforming scrap adds life to this beautiful quilt. I spy with my eye the 2 tone – blue and white. I love two tones.

Of course, when I was a youngster, Christmas was my favorite because of all the gifts; but as I have aged, I have grown to prefer the company of good friends and family so Thanksgiving has become my favorite. (Al the good food doesn’t hurt anything either.)

I am OBSESSED (I mean passionate) with hearts so Valentine’s is my favorite. I love the way you totally changed Pat’s Halloween quilt with the change in fabric. That’s what I like about her patterns to. They are typically universal designs so we can make them the fabric that works for us!

Christmas is my favorite holiday. Love to display my Christmas wall hangings and quilts. Also love to give my family gifts I have made throughout the year. I love this little piece of red that you included in your quilt. Really neat idea.
