Bumble Beans Basics!
Okay….here’s an opportunity for you to do MULTIPLE things.
- clean out your sewing room/studio
- get some new ideas
- help a bunch of other people
- feel good about helping said other peeps
- get a chance to win more fabric….to help fill that space you cleaned out above…..
Blue Nickel Studios has joined up with Victoria Findlay Wolfe and Pat Sloan
to see how many quilts we can all put together to help with the Bumble Bean Basics Quilt Drive. I will be donating a quilt from my collection of works toward the cause and I would like to have your help in making one or more quilts as well.
And here’s how you can help. You create a 10.5″ x 10.5″ unfinished quilt block and send it to me here:
Scott Hansen, Blue Nickel Studios, 1315 Gohr Road, Sultan, WA 98294
I will put the blocks together into one or more quilts (48 blocks per quilt) get them quilted up and sent back to NYC for the Basics Peeps to get distributed hopefully before the worst weather shows up.
For every block you send I will put your name in a bucket to win 10 fat quarters of fabric. If I get more than 48 blocks, everyone’s names get put in another bucket for another 10 fat quarters of fabric. (okay, it may be the same bucket, but you get the idea)
I will be posting a pattern for a special “Blue Nickel Basics” 10.5″ square block that you can make and send for this event later this week….but you don’t have to wait for that….just start sewing your favorite 10.5″ unfinished block now, or you can use those lost and forgotten blocks sitting in your sewing basket. If they aren’t quite 10.5″ square, add a border to them or something, put your name on it, and slap it in the mail to me. Or you can wait for my “special” block that I will get posted here hopefully by Friday the 9th.
So let’s see how we can help the many homeless peeps in NYC and you get a chance to win some free new fabrics for your stash! I will take pictures and post them on my blog as we go along on this project. Drawing will be held on September 30th and winner announced then….so go get sewing!!

And if you don’t want to help out on this cause because you are already helping out locally with many causes near you? Awesome!! Thanks for giving back to our world….

This is just awesome! I’ll be sending some blocks later in the week. I’m also making several quilts to send directly to the Home Basics project! This is a wonderful idea and I’m happy to be a part of it.

Thanks Scott! I can’t wait to see what you make and donate! All the quilts get a very appreciative and loving home!
Shelly
Scott, I’ve still got some “free-quilting” slots open for this project, so if you need help getting them quilted, let me know (the info is on my blog) . . . and thank YOU for helping the project, too!
awesome Shelly, I will be in touch!

I am in! Waiting for your block tut..
Have finished some quilts for BASICS already, but need your inspiration for some more blocks 😮
Off to check your free patterns…
Marsha
Scott, Pat and Victoria-this is a great, great idea. I just put together 14 blocks since reading your FB note this afternoon. Glad to be using up some of the material I had left from my Citizen S.A.M. quilts. Hurrah for helping others!
Linda Thielfoldt
Totally cool! Blocks will be headed your way. Also going to share on my wall. I started a star project a few years ago and know I am not going to complete it….as luck would have it, they are 10.5! I love being part of things like this!
Melissa P
Thanks for the reminder to get involved! I’m on it.
Magpie Sue
Thanks for doing this Scott. I’ve already made quilts for BASICS (and others). At this point making and sending a couple of blocks is more manageable than another whole quilt.

I’ve got extra fabrics and block I’d like to try. If you share the block you’d like us to make I’ll wait 🙂
Karen Lieberman
I see my friend Linda T is involved too! That’s awesome! I’ll be sending some of your blocks design too Scott!
Jeanette
So sorry I missed this Scott…we were out of town the month of Sept…but that just means I get to send a quilt directly =o) Thanks for the chance to help…and kudos to you for the great work.
