The Places We Go!

So today is my Day and Month to present my Block for  Aurifil Designer of the Month for February 2018. I consider it such an honor to be part of this group of Creatives.

All of the Details about my block (including the PDF with instructions) and the “place” I picked for the theme are over at Auribuzz. And while you are there, CHECK OUT their cover page!! It is STUNNING I think!!   Here is the link to my interview.  There are some shots of my VERY messy studio and some of the first quilts in my life among other tidbits in the interview.

I thought I would show a couple of different photos from one trip to Northern Idaho in the fall of 2016. Linda and I took some quilt pictures that came out pretty good at Cataldo Mission.

The Aurifil Designer of the Month Block

And there here is a “romance” or “glamour” shot of my original Aurifil Designer of the Month block. The rules we had as designers included a color requirement: black and white and one other color. Since I was smitten with those birch and aspen trees  (I honestly don’t know the difference – they seem pretty similar to me) from our last two trips to Northern Idaho  I went with Gold/Yellow as my chosen color. I am mailing off the below block to Pat Sloan to include in a quilt that has everyone’s blocks.

But I ALSO told you in this post last month that I was going to make my own quilt with all of this year’s Aurifil Designer of the Month blocks in Banyan Batiks and my line (still secret – even the name – when it comes out). I can’t start showing you my line until May so here is my Banyan version of my block (in blue of course):

The above Banyan Batiks are all by Karen Gibbs – My Batik mentor and supporter!!

I am going to do the January Block too, I promise!  But Katja, started us off with applique, and that is just not on my playlist. I will probably be adapting her pattern somehow!!  I will show you Instagram eventually, so be sure to follow me there!

And don’t forget to enter to win! Each month’s block makers can enter to win a 12 large spool kit from Aurifil! An amazing prize! Be sure to post your a photo of your block here to enter!

And then TOTALLY unrelated to any of the above….

The Free Spirit Shutdown….

I would just  like to ask that we all be praying for those employees at Free Spirit that lost their jobs this week. It is true that people lose jobs all of the time, but this is company was very dear to my heart. I have been in a place before where you go to work thinking one thing and suddenly your world is turned all around.

I knew a few of those people, not all by any means. The designers like Tula, Amy, Anna Maria, Denyse, Heather, Joel, Kathy, Kaffe, Brandon, Philip, Verna, Jennifer, and ALL of the rest (there are a LOT of big names there, and I am quite sure I forgot someone that I know too!) will land on their feet somewhere and it will be amazing. But it may be harder for the rest. So let’s pray for all of them to land in better and brighter pastures! If you didn’t hear about the big turnover you can read these two great articles by Abby and Kim.

That’s it for today, peeps!

Keep Sewing, Keep Happy,
Scott
