Flourish

Flourish

Flourish by Mia Whittemore is a wonderful line if you are looking for Springtime to come early! This fabric should be showing up in the shops right now! Woohoo!!  You know I have been talking a lot about the rain up here in Washington State lately. Fabric like this sure is a delight in this season! Reminding us of what is to come!

All of these cheerful colors after months of rain and grey, green, black, brown, and more grey are very healing for the spirit I think!

I love the freshly painted feel of this line. Have you seen Mia’s Instagram feed? Talk about a whole lotta beautiful Watercolors! In the fabric, the basic tonals compliment the florals so well.

It’s really just a bunch of fun colors that go well together as a group with a variety of color and value, but would also be useful pulled away from each other and mixed with all of your other fabrics. Which is always handy, right?

New Tool Time!

I have been holding onto this line for awhile in the studio, because I have been wanting to experiment with this new (to me at least) rotary cutter by Olfa! I finally found some time to play with it.

So I have to say it probably would have been better to watch this video before trying it out – I think I need a little more practice.  My circles aren’t super even, but I really think that was my fault and not the cutter’s.  That White ‘mostly’ circle is strategically placed over the spot I botched up on the Purple one!    And also Be Careful! The pivot point that is protected by the little black cap is very sharp! Just take my word for it 🙂

I am not exactly sure what the finished piece will be, but I think I will end up raw appliqueing the circles on a pieced background and using that as a cushion cover.

So How About a Flourish Giveaway Too?

I will draw winner next week from those who post comments here and on Instagram – so two winners, one from each platform. I’ll send an assortment of fat eighths from Flourish and then some other scraps from around here. Really it will be a little bit of a surprise for you and me. Comment here and on this Flourish post on my Instagram Feed. (please be sure to follow me on Instagram too!) To make you think a little bit on this giveaway, let’s have your comment be just Five words about this line or quilting in general. Mine would be “Loving all of the colors.” I will draw names sometime on Thursday or possibly Friday.

Keep Sewing, Keep Happy,
Scott
