March Madness – – Catching Up on The Splendid Sampler

March Madness – – Catching Up on The Splendid Sampler

As today is March 31st and I have not posted here since March 3rd, I thought I would try to get one more post out in March.

This post is titled March Madness, because that is what it has been around here this last month! And the yard work hasn’t really even started!

I have been working on a bunch of things at once. Two quilts for upcoming Magazine Spots were the “fun projects” but also a whole lot of paperwork for household stuff, bills, accounting, FAFSA’s, blah, blah, blah…So yeah, not really Post-Worthy happenings those.  I had already made a lot of The Splendid Sampler blocks early. I just never managed to get them posted here. So today’s post is going to cover Blocks 7-14 (even though I have barely started 14!)  I thought since my main color theme for this project is Green and White (with a fair share of Pink) that Ending March would be most appropriate with sharing all of the Green and White so far.

Here are all of my blocks so far including one of the bonus blocks.

The blocks above are the ones that are finished. These three blocks below are the blocks that need more handwork from me. And, yeah, they will all take the longest. I am almost done with Block 7 – Snug as a Bug…..I am cheating on Block 11 – Crocheted Thoughts by using a snowflake ornament from Christmas ( tried soaking the starch out of it, but it still seems super stiff)  I just have to tack it on the background part of the block. And Block 14 – Flying High, today’s block I have only traced on some white Moda Grunge (one of my favorite “solids”)

I had a little fun with photographing Block 9 – Local Quilt Shop ….. I nabbed some of my Lego Mini-Figurines … I call the Surfer guy, Rob, for my buddy Rob Appell who is a surfer AND a quilter. He is an awesome dude. Check out his popular Man Sewing site here.

That’s it for today’s post. And my March Madness is going on into April in case you were wondering. As I wrap up this post, my heard is very heavy for I just found out that my mother’s sister, Marilyn, went to be with Jesus last night. My mom only had the one sister. You know that Mom passed away about 6  1/2 months ago. We spent SOOOO much time with my Aunt’s family. My cousins were like siblings that I didn’t get to see enough. Ever. I remember LONGING to go visit my my cousin Jeff as a boy. Aunt Marilyn often watched us and drove us places as kids. My heart is grieving for my cousins who now will know my loss of a mother. I know that many people go through this all of the time. It doesn’t make it any less difficult though, does it?

And I was reminded that Green was Aunt Marilyn’s favorite color. So today’s post of Green and White seems to be even more appropriate some how.

  • I’m so sorry for your loss, Scott. One of my mom’s sisters always fed my need to create with fabric and I think part of my love for it came from her. Praying for peace for you and your family.

I’m sorry to hear of the loss of your aunt. My aunts were like second mothers to me and it’s hard to lose them.

So sorry Scott. And so soon after your Mom’s passing makes it even harder. I only had one Aunt and she was my second Mom. My cousin is one of my best friends so I count my self blessed.
