The Splendid Sampler — Blocks 4,5,&6 — Catching Up

The Splendid Sampler — Blocks 4,5,&6 — Catching Up

Believe it or not, I am actually ahead on my Splendid Sampler blocks, but that is only because I am on the designer crew and I get early admittance to each block. But I am behind on my posting of the blocks. And I am sure it won’t be the first time. This morning is my day off from the Day Job at Costco Corporate, so I slept in. I really need to work on my taxes and FAFSA’s for two kids. Plus yesterday I started having trouble printing from my cheap little home printer. So this morning I have already been messing with it to no avail. Sigh……

So to separate myself from that less than fun stuff I am working on this blog post first. I am really grumpy at the moment, but I hope that by sharing these fun blocks from the past three Splendid Sampler Blocks, I will get cheered up and at least somewhat able to tackle those aforementioned troublesome tasks!

Up above is Focal Point today’s Splendid Sampler Block #6 by Natalia Bonner! I used the dark green Civil War reproduction print because I noticed as I was making these blocks that I keep ending up in the medium value range, so I am trying to focus on making sure there is some light and dark prints in my blocks.

And then here below is last Sunday’s Block #5  Simple Simon by Celine Perkins.  Celine lists a few tips for her block here.  Of the blocks that I have made, this is up there on my favorites list (aww, who am I kidding, I think I will end up liking them all!!)

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw me making Block #4  – Happy, Happy by Jen Kingwell below last week in a couple posts on IG. This was more time consuming because of the handwork. I had fun with trying a couple of free form flowers using embroidery floss and then making yo-yo flowers with this Clover tool. It worked well. I think I would need more practice for a real yo-yo quilt project as they aren’t perfectly round yo-yo’s, but I think they make great flowers.

I thought I was going to get to posting the pictures below of blocks #4 and #5 and #1 (Which I originally posted here, but I actually got the heart fastened down with some buttonhole stitching finally)  this past Sunday when Block #5 went live. But that didn’t happen. So here you go.

Note the little teaser “extra bits” from an upcoming block later in the year!

That’s it for today.  I have got to get back to those taxes and Fafsa’s and that dang @#*@&#! printer. Sigh. Not sure if I feel much less grumpy, but maybe just a little bit!   ( I also procrastinated and did some Etsy shopping here while writing this post — such a great shop! ) That certainly was fun!! 🙂

Keep Sewing, Keep Happy!

  • Love your colour choices, Scott! It’s been amazing seeing so many people’s different takes on the same blocks! I need to get back to stitching my blocks for the SS!
