Jaybird Sew Along and Giveaway!
I stopped by to visit with my friends Sara and Julie the other day (check all of the other visits out too, Sara is hosting a bunch of reviews on Julie’s patterns and rulers)……okay Virtually stopped by, whatever…..that’s where I talked about the above runners made with Julie’s Seaside pattern. But today here is where I am going to give one of them away…..Just the top, you will have to quilt it yourself….but at least the piecing is all done.
I also wanted to show you all of these little bags I made with a lot of the Jelly Roll leftovers. I can’t believe how much fabric was in that Jelly Roll!!
All of the fabric in these projects were from one yard a jelly roll of Joanna’s new line Mirabelle (with the exception of that one fleur de lis stripe cream and tan print in the lining of that middle bag [and a few more]. That print is an older Michael Miller print). I am making a TON of these bags that will hopefully be filled with goodies from my many industry friends for giving away at Quilt Market and Quilters’ Affair coming soon.
So back to the giveaway. Since this line reminds me so much of Peach Cobbler, leave a comment about your favorite fruit or fruit concoction or any story regarding fruit. I will draw a name sometime this weekend and send the winner one of the runner tops above. As I mentioned above the winner will have to quilt and bind it, but the piecing is all done for you.
And I have to get back to sewing and writing. I am almost caught up on my sewing, but my writing is SOOOO far behind. (and those of you waiting for the Quilters’ Affair patterns that I was going to have done months ago, I am eternally grateful for your patience. I am getting close to having them ready, but they are still not quite there….you are awesome for being so graciously waiting for them!) (And this simple little post took freaking forever to get done…programs acting up etc…I need a faster computer…or I need to clean this one out {that is probably very true!})

I volunteer one day a week at the foodbank in downtown Seattle. Just this morning as I watched many clients leave with their arms burdened by whole watermelons I was struck by the realization of how really wealthy this country is that we can give away such fresh bounty (we also had apples, pears, acorn squash, potatoes and onions) to those who really need it and heart ache that there are other hungry people in this country we are unable to reach.

My favourite fruit is Mango. Mmm!! I enjoy it as a fresh fruit, or as a flavouring in sorbets, ice-cream, juice, anything really. It’s delish!

I love Blueberry Perogies… A fond childhood treat and memory 😉
My mom would make them occasionally…..mmmmmmmm delicious!
Debbie
The best fruit in the world is raspberries. They are great fresh, in sauce over cheesecake, in yogurt, etc.
Linda Nelson
I have raspberries that grow in my backyard. Can’t wait! I have them every morning with granola, and every evening with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce!
Elizabeth Johnson
I love the pears that grow on my trees. Last year I learned to make Pear Jam. We have enjoyed them all Winter. I just hope the frost didn’t get them for this year!
Jo
I just love any kind of berries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc… thank goodness I have a big enough yard to be able to grow plenty. I really like how the house smells when I am making jam and jelly from berries!
Cecilia
I live in Georgia and I can’t wait for the peaches to be ready this summer! They taste great with everything, but homemade peach ice cream is the best. Cute runners and bags.

Wowzer–that’s a lot of little baskets! My favorite fruit dessert would be strawberries with cheesecake underneath them–lol!
MaryBeth
I love strawberries. I love their color, flavor, everything about them. Strawberry pie, jam, cakes and just plain old strawberries!! Thanks for sharing.

Fruit concoction is something I have not had since I was a teenager. Strawberry/Rhubarb jam. My Mum would make this and it had such a twang but was always helped along by what went with it – YEP! Made into a cobbler. How did you guess. ggg Another would be her blackcurrant jam that when I had a cold it would be made into a good tea to drink. Really helped the throat. Purchased blackcurrant is not the same, unfortunately. Thank you for a really nice giveaway and to have the top already pieced it marvellous indeed. Ann in Colorado

I love any citrus fruit. A close second are plums. Always loved jack horner you know?

When I was 5 and my brother was 6 we would spend a lot of time at grandma’s house. Her neighbor was an older lady who didn’t get out much. My brother and I would sneak around her house where there was an apricot tree and we would eat them fresh picked from the tree. We thought we were getting away with something, but I’m sure that older woman didn’t care, because as I grew older there were always apricots on the tree. No one ever picked them. Now as an adult I cannot stand to eat apricots.

I have three new wee little apple trees this year. They are new grafts off a very old tree that had been struck by lightning on the farm where I grew up. They are a small, very early apple in a glowing peachy pink just like your quilts. When I was a child, they were my favorite apples. I haven’t seen or tasted one since.
Emily C
I love strawberries, right now. We have a bunch, with pound cake and whipped cream =) Spring is tasty.

I was teaching at an outdoor education school in a remote rural area. That week we had kids from an inner city high school. Most had never been to a farming area and certainly hadn’t seen apples growing on trees. we were on a hike to a cave and the kids decided that they were more interested in picking and eating apples in an abandoned orchard than continuing to the cave. they brought so many apples back to the school that the chef was able to make them a dessert using them up.

My favorite fruit ‘concoction’ is making a Dump Cake with the Cracker Barrel Blackberry Cobbler filling. Oh man. Total yum.
Sarah
I love raspberries. My favorite memory of them is picking them growing wild in the Russian country side. Thank you for the giveaway! If I win it, it will live on our coffee table!
Donna Joy

I would love to have one of those on my kitchen table! I have some great muffins in my freezer right now – with chunks of peach, strawberry, and blueberries in them 🙂
Judy
My favorite fruit is fresh pineapple. Actually most of my favorite fruits are of the tropical variety. Somehow I think that when it comes to fruit I was born in the wrong country. I am just glad that we have them available in the stores here.
Lori M
Love the fabrics in the runners, and the bags–so, so cute! My favorite fruit would have to be fresh blueberries mmmmm-delish!
Meri
I love every kind of fruit but my latest ” concoction” was adding oranges, apples and mango to the sangria I made! Nothing like some pickled fruit!
Jeanne
Hey Scott, good to hear from you. Like all of us, you sound busy and that is a good thing. I am a fruit junkie, be it pears, apples, peaches, plums, nectarines, oranges or berries off the bush and plant. We have our own orchard and berry patch so in the summer and fall we have an abundance of my favorite foods. I can, freeze, dehydrate and make jellies each year so we can enjoy the goodness when it is no longer available fresh. Thanks for a chance to win a flimsy, I can get that baby quilted in my machine in no time flat.

Strawberries are in-season now in Southwest Louisiana and I can’t get enough of Strawberry Pie. As the seasons change, so do my tastebuds.
Diann Cornell
My favorite is lemons. Not by themselves of course, but they make wonderful lemonade, not to mention enhancing all kinds of recipes.
Kathy Davis
Blueberries are my favorite. I have frozen blueberries and Greek yogurt every morning. It’s like eating ice cream for breakfast.
Jess
Favorite fruit would be apricots.
A local-ish farm has a large store open all summer long near me. I always go over my food budget in the summer buying so much fresh produce! (Cherries are expensive)
Helen
I love fresh peach pie. Coincidentally, my maiden name is Peach.
Lori Morton
Well…this is right up our driveway!! lol We have a PEACH orchard…and sell from the yard, and go to 3 Farm Mkts during peach season. I make lots of Jam, Pies, & a mean Peach Cobbler! ( my Husband’s Granma’s recipe). It is Yummy!!
When I saw this fabric line for the first time…I thought of peaches too!! 🙂 Mmmmm….

LOVE this so much!!
There’s this simple dessert I like to make. You dump a can of cherries, pineapple in a glass pan, then sprinkle with coconut and walnuts (opt), then a dry yellow cake mix and cut up squares of a stick of butter/marg and distribute evenly on top. Bake for like 30 min or until top is browned. SO GOOD. Its so good warm or when it’s cooled. I can eat the whole thing in a few days, so I try not to make it too often.
But any fruit is good. I can’t think of one I don’t like. My Grandma used to make the best peach cobbler. Yum! I’m so craving dessert now. Thanks for the chance to win!
Pam
What delightful creations! I love the runners and the baskets. I teach writing and I once gave my students a writing prompt simply entitled “false fruitcake.” I got paragraphs about processed food, mystery stories, a romance, and reflections on shallow friendships and fragile family ties. It was fun reading! Thanks for this giveaway opportunity. I love the idea of a top pieced by one quilter and finished by another. What a treasure!
Chris
I love all fruit so just a big bowl of strawberries, blueberries and pineapple is heaven to me.
Becky
I love your little bags! They look so cute all together in the photo. I love to bake so I love any fruit I can put in a pie or cake or other pudding. I have some bananas that are waiting to made into my husbands favourite banana bread!
Sherry VF
What a unique giveaway…I like that the project is almost finished! Actually, my family loves peach cobbler. I also make a tasty rhubarb dumpling that is a hit at home and rhubarb is in season soon!
Cathy G
I love blueberries! I eat them in my oatmeal in the morning and in the afternoon I put them in a shake with kale and other goodies. Love the bags you made! So cute! You made so many you could probably make them in your sleep. 🙂
Joan H.
I love strawberries and rhubarb in any form but especially baked as a pie,( with ice cream , of course.) Your little bags are so cute and pretty!
Evelyn
I love all sorts of fruits. My favorites are peaches, strawberries, and oranges. My favorite quick dessert is mandarin oranges with some sour cream. Yum!
wendy
I’m allergic to oranges. You wouldn’t believe how often oranges are added to stuff you didn’t know they were in.
Lisa Marie
I love strawberry shortcake. Made with angel food cake and topped with whipped cream.
billiemick
Love my Mom’s lemon pie recipe….not much of a fruit, but very tasty!
dianna
Love strawberries! My favorite is strawberry pie which I don’t get very often. First time I had strawberry pie, my grandma took me out to a little diner and let me order a great big piece. She used to tease me “do you think you can eat all of that by yourself”. I said yes I could but she helped me anyway. Now I always think of my beautiful grandma whenever I have strawberry pie! Thanks grandma!
Marti
I recently learned how to make an apple pie from scratch. I can not wait to go apple picking this year and create some homemade deliciousness to share with friends and family!
Gill
Rhubarb crumble and custard – yummy!!
Arianna M.
I love raspberries, red or black. My grandparents have a huge garden and grow red and black raspberries every year. My grandmother makes an amazing raspberry peach pie. And now my mouth is watering 🙂
Sarah C
I love cherries! And I love looking out the window at the Cherry blossoms on the tree out front. Thank you for the giveaway!

My favorite fruit is the strawberry. Yummy!!

Rhubarb pie is my favorite. I have grown my own rhubarb for over 30 years.
Vicki H
Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries…I love them all. Fresh is best but also good as jams and jellies.
Karen L.
Peach cobbler …. oh my! Growing up in South Jersey made me a lover of peaches. We used to buy them at the local fruit stand on our way down the shore. However, I am also a blueberry lover and always have some in my freezer for pancakes and for on top of my cereal. Thank goodness my husband doesn’t like them … more for me!
Crystal
My family LOVES peach cobbler! There’s something about warm peach cobbler topped with melty vanilla ice cream that makes me feel like I’m home, no matter where I am.
