Day Six #12DaysofColor!
Hey there! We made it to Day 6! Woohoo!!
I still haven’t gotten that “grab my button” coding done, so at this point….it just may be too late….I really needed to start planning this whole event two weeks earlier, but I was so busy with so many things, that I feel lucky just to have gotten this far. I really have enjoyed reading your comments and sharing these blocks with you though, even if I haven’t had the best pre-planning on the event.
One of the comments recently was about the Aurfil threads of the day, and I just want to clarify a couple of things. The threads that I am featuring are just some of the threads that I have been using here. They are not the “prize” ones because the prize ones are bigger and more for piecing as most of them are more neutral. The grand prize Aurifil pack does have more color, but they are also the larger spools. I have simply been featuring them as part of the “color” portion of the posts because Aurifil has so graciously been one of the sponsors of this little series. The spools pictured are more eye candy than anything else.
Today’s block is by Wencke Wolff Hatling and her interview with Pat Sloan is here. And here are the directions for the block I used.
Here is the Kona block done up in — in Persimmon, Valentine, and Prussian (which “quilting-related” company has a logo in these colors?? The combo seems very familiar to me!):
Here is the third Joel Dewberry True Colors from Free Spirit Block (loving how the herringbone print worked out in this block!):
Here is the second Jug or Not From Michael Miller Block (again this print line is probably too big for these blocks…but I still kinda like its UBER busy-ness, and the more I work with it, the more I want kitchen stuff out of it for this spring):
Here is the Grunge From Moda block:
And here are the Aurifil threads of the day (2021 and 2892) :
So as you have been doing, post a comment here (and if you haven’t on the past 12 Days of Color! posts, them too) to be eligible for the daily prize as well as the grand prizes at the end….(they are big, I promise… I will have some pix of the prizes somewhere near the end of this series….Day 10 or 11 I think) Comment about the blocks, the colors, the prints, the amount of chocolate you have consumed this year, month, week, day, etc. Things like that.
I would love if you would share about this event with your quilty friends of course, and I would also love if you “Liked” my facebook page, but that is NOT the emphasis of these posts, I just want to share my love of color and fabric with you all, and to the lucky ones, some fun giftees in the New Year.
Bethany
The herringbone print looks fabulous on the True Colors block! I love seeing the different blocks each day!
Joyce Carter
I really love the Kona block today. The colors look awesome together. I also love the green Aurifil thread. It is a beautiful color of green which just happens to be my favorite color. Thanks for showing all these blocks. You are doing a wonderful job and I have enjoyed seeing all these blocks with diferent colors used in each block.
melissa
I agree with you on the Jug or Not? prints but I absolutely love them! 🙂
Sandy K
I like the wood grain print in the True colors block.
Vicki H
I am liking the Grunge more and more each day.
Carli Heinrichs
Hi, I’m not a fan of Facebook,I have a page, but don’t use it very much. So no, I didn’t like you on Facebook, but I’ve been reading about your work in magazines. Thanks for this offere to enter to win something fabulous, Merry Christmas.
Elizabeth Johnson
Hi Scott – I like True colors best today, directional fabric looks great in this block! I always will love the Grunge blocks, I enjoy the whisk of color underneath! Reminds me of the first coat of paint over a colored wall in the old days before primer. Thank you for doing this it is really fun to see what colors your going to use each time! I cannot wait to see them all together at the end!
Cecilia
I’m really liking the Kona and Grunge blocks! I haven’t made a solid quilt before, but your blocks are inviting me to try one. I’m not sure who has a logo in those colors, but they do look familiar. Thanks for all of your hard work. Oh, I already like your Facebook page. 🙂
Jo
Wow this time those solids look great! Oh good golly Chocolate…yummy but I actually have an allergy to it and can not eat any…….sometimes life is so unfair
Rachelle - Warming Crafts
Ooooh, the Kona one is stunning!
Crystal Flemmer
That herringbone turned out amazing! I generally get about half way through a block like that and realize that I could have planned better. lol And I can’t tell you how much chocolate I’ve consumed this year. I’m pretty sure that’s a number that should remain in private. =)
Mary on Lake Pulaski
That Grunge block would make a smashing man’s quilt!
Cathy G
Wow! Scott, you are really turning me into a solid freak after looking at these blocks. LOVE the Kona block, it is stunning. Love the Dewberry one too, but the solid block is awesome. The colors are perfect (maybe cause pink is my fav). 🙂
Can’t believe Christmas will be here in less than a week. Started baking cookies today, so that is finally getting done. Hopefully, we won’t eat them all so we’ll have some left for Christmas. lol
Heather
I use neutrals for most of my piecing a I am usually working on more than one project at a time. It’s when I am machine quilting that colour comes into play. I love using the variegated threads. they are such fun as well as they seem to hide the wobbles. I am quilting a baby quilt next. I has some wide yellow borders where I am going to use variegated blue to quilt boys motifs. Really looking forward to working on it.
Pam S
Delightful blocks! I agree with you about the herringbone. I love the movement in it. Thanks so much for sharing these every day.
kimberlee
Thanks for the reminder about your fb page! I love how the Joel Dewberry block turned out with the medallion center.
Are you able to pick out a favorite block out of all the ones you are creating?
Emily C
That herringbone print is awesome. Love how the colors balance.
Allyson LePenske
OK today Kona and Jug or Not are my favorite blocks.
Patty
The Jug or Not fabrics look very interesting. I will be looking for them, to see larger pieces of it. I also like the herringbone fabric used as a background. Especially since it’s in a “pattern” not lines going all directions. This time I don’t especially like the block made with Grunge, or maybe it’s just the colors of Grunge together.
Linda Fleming
Wow!
The Grunge from Moda block really accentuates all the component parts! I love the shading in those fabrics too.
I love using Aurifil threads – the color range is fantastic.
Audrey Goodwin
I stated earlier that I am new to quilting. I do have a embroidery machine and have been reading quite a bit about how great Aurifil thread is to work with, free stand lace calls for cotton thread so I am looking forward to trying Aurifil. Right now I’m dying to make quilt blocks with the that beautiful Kona and/or Grunge and embroidering some cool designs. I’m getting more of a ‘I can do it’ attitude every day.
Susan the farm quilter
Love this block in Grunge and Kona!! It is really cool to see the same block in four completely different fabric lines…totally changes the look of the block! Loving it!! And every block I like the best in Grunge and Kona!!
Kim
Love the blue, orange and pink together. Great fun. Thanks for sharing!
Karen Miller
Scott kudos for getting a post done almost every day! I have been in panic mode for about 2 days now but I’m loving your piecing and colors. I’m a little partial to Joel’s fabric and to Moda Grunge that I will be using for an upcoming Moda Bake Shop recipe… Fun fun. Thanks for sharing your talent and inspiring!
shirley tener
Woooo.. Retro there
Evie H
What a great job you’re doing. I love today’s Kona solids combination. Very eye-catching. Looking forward to the rest of the blocks. Thanks!
Rose Smith
I’m really enjoying following your posts, thank you. Again, a lovely block that looks so different in the varying fabrics. I’m surprised how much I like the Joel Dewberry blocks, as I don’t think I would usually pick these type of prints myself.
Kathy h
I am liking solid blocks more and more.
Gill
I can’t choose between the Kona block and the Joel Dewberry!!
Lori M
Still loving the Grunge blocks–I need to get some for my stash….lovig that green Aurifil thread–such a pretty color.
rosa
Kona combo fabrics caught my eye, yummiest. My favorite today!
Wenda
I love seeing how different each block looks each day!
Pattie C
This is a great block, lots going on so I have to say the Kona looks best to me. The prints seem like too much distraction from the geometry of the block and nice piecing btw.
Karen
Love the Kona block, brings back memories of our anniversary trip to Kona, Hawaii.
Janice
The solid block is beautiful and shows your talent in piecing!
Mara
Your Kona color selection is so interesting, I would never have put those 2 together, but it looks very bold!
Maryellen
Solid and Grunge show off the block the best, and yes, I also noticed and liked the herringbone in the Dewberry version. The kitchen prints? Maybe it needs some blenders instead of all the large prints. That’s just dizzying! Fun seeing this.
Sue Bone
I love the fussy cutting of the Joel Dewberry block centre and how the herringbone all points to the centre and leads your eye.
Judy
Wow! what a fantastic block. The busyness of the Michael Miller fabric really changes the whole look. It is always interesting how the different fabrics bring out a different feature of the block.
tubakk
Today the Grunge is my favorite. But I’m still in love with the busy blocks, so Jug or not is calling my name.
Janice Mc Laren
I really like the grunge fabrics best. Are you going to put together quilts from all these blocks?
Shawn J
I really like that grunge block, they are my fave colors right now. Thank you for the giveaway.
Debbie
I love the Kona block. The Persimmon is such a gorgeous color and it looks great with the navy.
diane
Grunge is my favorite again today!
Stephanie Carter
I found some Grunge in my stash! thanks for the give away and for getting me to look through my stacks of fabric!
Carol Broughton
Love these blocks! Thank you for your very inspiring ideas!
Heidi
This time I am liking the Grunge. It has a bit of a modern railroad vibe:-)
carol
I made 3 blue quilts this year, time for a change!
Amy @ Sew Incredibly Crazy
I love all of them. Would love to see all other blocks together with their color. They are so beautiful!
cissa k
They are all so wonderful. Hard to pick a favorite. Let’s not talk about chocolate quantities 🙂
Lizzie
Wow! The Jug or nots Really don’t work with this block! But that version is still my fave…..!
Alexis
Still love what you’re doing with the grunge!
Sarah Vee
Love all the combinations today. I must admit I didn’t realize it was the same Aurifil block when I was looking through your post! Your really making me want to play more with these blocks.
Margaret
I love seeing the four different versions of these blocks every day. What are you going to do with them when you’re done? Could make a very interesting quilt if you put them all together. 🙂
usairdoll
Another great day of blocks! I’m a Grunge girl again today, hehe. Nice to see all the pretty colors of Aurifil each day. Great job Scott!
Sue
The Kona really pops here, love the color combo!
Jessica P.
I don’t believe I have come across this block before. I am new to quilting. It is a fun little block isn’t it? I really enjoy the solid color blocks with this one. Very nice.
dianna eickhorn
Thought I commented on this block, but, maybe I didn’t. I love the colors of the Grunge and, the way it makes a different pattern.
Jeanette
I think the more solid fabrics make this block design more graphically appealing. What a nice ‘manly’ quilt it would make.
nikki
I have always had a bad sense of putting colors together and you have just shown me that i have actually been ahead of my time! I am in awe of how you do this. I must take one of your classes next year that is my goal!
MaryBeth
Like the black/grey/yellow.
Laura
I love how all of these turned out. What a great block!
shirley tener
I could live with this Grunge From Moda
Becky Greene
I really love the Grunge block today… and that fussy-cut medallion on the JD block – perfection!
Amy C
I love fun gifties!! And have liked your FB page! Happy Holidays – keep up the hard work on these blocks – they are very cool!!
Joy
Wow, your Kona block practically buzzes…the contrast between those three colors is dizzying. I need to pick up some of that Persimmon, it’s great!
Kathy
Winter is not my favorite time of year!
Donna Joy
True colors is great, loving the Herring bone and wood grain prints. Jug n not is to busy for this unique block.
LINDA
LIKE THE NEAT KONA ONE!
THANKS FOR SHARING!
Lori M
LOVE that green Aurifil thread–the color is gorgeous!
Janice
I am getting where I like the blocks done with Grundge best. That fabric can go with everything.
KellyS
Ha! I see now that you agree that Jug or Not is busy, but would be cute in kitchen related sewing. 🙂 I love this block. I can see it as a focal for the Wee Wander prints from below. I have a few prints of that line coming, but I think I may have to buy the entire FQ collection (I have a little girl, this line would be adorable for her quilt). Out of these blocks the Kona one is striking! I don’t know who has those colors in their logo though, sorry!
Sarah
I love Joel Dewberry. His fabrics at least, I’ve never met him. But I bet I’d love him, too.
Lisa Marie
I like this block best in the solids and grunge fabrics — they really let the geometry of the block shine. As for chocolate, I’ve only had a little bit today — better go get some more!
Judy Forkner
Chocolate does sound good!
Kay
The persimmon colour is gorgeous. I have a lot of orange in my stash at the moment. I follow you on Fb.
nadia wilson
I’m still liking the blocks done in the grunge fabric…they stand out so well!
Cathy Cameron
Loving the eye candy..recently started using this thread and love it!
Elizabeth S
Jug or Nots is a great color scheme.
Deborah Hillman
Like all 4 blocks today!!
Mary
Grunge wins out again for me!
