Day Three #12DaysofColor!
phew! It’s a good thing I never said that this would be the 12 “consecutive” Days of Color!! WHAT was I thinking doing in this in December!? Not only are there the every day Christmas shenanigans going on, but Max has his 18th birthday next week AND he also had an operation yesterday. My one day off that I was going to get so much done for the next few days until Monday my next day off was spent running around for different various things surrounding Max’s operation and Mimi’s going to a friend’s place for the weekend. So much for that “all day in the studio” day!
So anyway Enough whining! Here is Day Three of the 12 Days of Color with today’s block coming to you from Jeni Baker. You can read her interview with Pat Sloan here. And get the directions to today’s block here.
Here is the Kona block done up in — Silver, Storm, and Kale (totally did not mean for this to look like our Seattle Seahawks….but there you go….maybe it’s a Superbowl sign??):
Here is the third Heather Bailey True Colors from Free Spirit Block (and this one made me hungry the whole time…all I could think of was chocolate mint everything):
Here is the third Wee Wander from Michael Miller Block (Loved dumping the “ring” formation for the “churn dash” block concealed with in on this one):
Here is the Grunge from Moda block (the “churn dash” is completely absorbed in this one):
And here are the Aurifil threads of the day (2884 and 2615):
Sorry there’s not time to talk about these more today. I have been loving YOUR comments though where you are talking about them. Tomorrow (hopefully….or maybe this evening!) is Day Four….It will be the last day for Wee Wander and the first day for a new True Colors Designer to appear. The Grunge and the New Kona’s will continue. I hope by Monday I will be catching up and ahead (same goal as yesterday with hopefully better results!)
Remember to leave a comment each day for the daily prize as well as the grand prizes at the end. The way things are going, I don’t know if I will actually be able to get to drawing names for the prizes until after Christmas…..but pressies in the mail are always more fun in the New Year than the credit card bills, right?
Oh, and I am still going to try to get a “button” for you to grab and share with your readers if you have your own blog. I also wanted to get some pictures of some of the fabric stacks that are the grand prizes….they are pretty awesome!
Oh, and if you want to like my Facebook Page that would be great with me too!! Helps build “street cred” in the biz….
Keep Sewing, Keep Happy!

I wish you hadn’t mentioned mint chocolate, I now need to go and raid a selection box. Are selection boxes a British Christmas tradition or do you get them in the US too?
Bethany
I love the true colors block, and it makes me hungry too!
Sharon Hughson
I love chocolate, but never heard of a selection box. Is that a box of candy with a map as to what is in each piece and where in the box. We have those here in the States.
usairdoll
WoW! I can’t believe these are all the same block, color works wonder. Thanks for all your hard work! This is a busy month and I appreciate you passing on your knowledge;-) Hope all is well and a speedy recovery for your son. Happy 18th as well!
Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.
Joyce Carter
I love the Wee Wander block today. Isn’t it amazing how the block changes just by using different colors? Ummm- chocolate would be very good about right now.
helenmarie
I love all the blocks! It’s amazing how fabrics and placement make such a difference in the same block!
Karen Miller
Busy Busy Scott — it’s crazy this year with Thanksgiving being so late… Good luck with surgeries and other errands — snowing like crazy here in the NE so home and being really productive (although the shopping is NOT happening right now).
Love the blocks, the colors and the thread — need to go find some Mint Ice Cream though ; )
Thanks again..
Karen
Jeanette
I have to say the simplicity of the Grunge block is my favorite.
Poor Max…I hope he is on the mend. You guys have had more than your share this year…hugs!! (Oh and Happy Birthday Max!)
Dee
Well, so far I have loved the grunge – but I really like the contrast of the wee wonder – I am a churn dash lover!
Audrey Goodwin
I am back to loving Grunge. I can’t seem to get enough of those colors. I am definitely going to have to track those down. But the Kona today was beautiful and Heather’s made me crave chocolatey mint goodness too.
Cecilia
My favorites are still the Kona and Wee Wander blocks. I agree that pressies are much better than bills. :-). I hope Max recovers quickly.
Patty
The Grunge really makes the block pattern disappear. My favorite is the Wee Wonder. And chocolate…did someone mention chocolate! If it was earlier in the day I’d go on a search for chocolate.
Susan the farm quilter
Still loving the Kona best of all!! Of course, loving the Seahawks makes this color combo a no-brainer, but the Kona colors are just so crisp and clean!!
Mary on Lake Pulaski
The Kona block is my favorite today and I’m not a Seahawks fan either. It’s just smashing!
Barb in BC
Hi! Thank you for all of your hard work at creating these 12 days of posts! I’m really enjoying them, and love to see the blocks in different colours. Lots of design ideas …
Thanks again, Barb in BC
Cathy G
I really like the Kona block, another solid block, I’m so surprised as I said before, I’m not much of a solid color girl.
And if it looks like the Seahawks color, good, cause my Redskins stink this year, again!! Really thought this was the year!
heidi
Go Seahawks!!
Rachelle - Warming Crafts
I like the Heather Bailey True Colours one this time, the colours seem more harmonious than the other blocks and are soothing to the eye.
amy hoeh
Hello,
Great job! I’m going to agree with myself from yesterday and like the Heather Bailey True Colors again. I must be hungry because all that I can think of when I look at the center of the block is broccoli? And I don’t even like broccoli. LOL. I sure wish that some of us could help you – this seems like such a huge task for one person to complete along with working a FT job! xo
Heather
I’ve been piecing 4 1/2 inch churn dash blocks for a quilt for my niece. They are very traditional. While I enjoy making them, after 80, it’s starting to get a bit boring keeping to the strict light and dark. Yours are a lot more fun.
Janice
You have taken on a HUGE project here—very impressive! I will miss the Wee Wander block. I really like that one best today!
Carol Broughton
Love that Grunge Churn Dash block!!
Mary
I’m going to miss the Wee Wander! (I still hear it calling my name…not sure if I can wait till Boxing Day sales or not ;-/ ) Still loving the Grunge.
Janice Mc Laren
Oh shoot. now I’m hungry for chocolate mint too.
Natalie
I like the Kona block colors best today. However, all are beautiful!
Pam
I’m loving the Heather Bailey today. I agree with you – chocolate mint!
Bonnie Pfrimmer
Loving the Kona Solids. Beautiful colors. You are busy!! Try to relax a little. Enjoy the season.
Margaret
While I do love the individual colors in your Kona block, I cannot, as a 49ers fan, love the block. 🙂
Evie H
Scott, you’re right about doing this during the Christmas rush. Brave man! I love the blocks and look forward to new fabric but am going to miss Wee Wander. I hope all is well with Max.
Beth Portwood
I like this grunge the best.
Elizabeth Johnson
I really like those Kona colors today and the thread colors are awesome! Thank you!
Maryellen
I’m liking the grunge one today. Have a good weekend!
Amy @ Sew Incredibly Crazy
The Kona colors are so cool and crisp today. Love them!
Gill
The versions all look so different don’t they???
I love the Kona!
Lizzie
I love your observations as well on these. The chocolate mint one really grabbed me this time (sorry, now that name stuck!) and the Grunge one really works too. Amazing how much these change with the different fabric choices! A really lesson for those of use doing bee blocks too…..
Lori M
Once again loving the wee wander block. The thread colors you are showing are gorgeous!
rosa
Go you can, if you want a helper here I am. Love all the blocks. Today if I have to choose one would be the Heather Bailey True Colors and then Kona. Have a fun day!!
shirley tener
Scott I can make your life look Slow!! If that makes you feel better…. The only reason I am sitting right now cuz I just woke up from 5 hrs sleep and cant see yet………blockss.. blah blah blah………. ummmhhmm bug.. No, they are great.. I am watching the thread things
Sue
Love this block, the Kona one especially.
Lynette
Wow – They are all the same pattern??? amazing! So in love with the Heather Bailey and the “Seahawks” block. Is the outer edge the same solid as the inner light? It must be, but isn’t it neat how it looks darker than it does inside the Kale by the Storm? And I hope Max is recovering well from his surgery.
Margaret Schindler
I really like all the blocks today but my favorite still is the Grunge. Heather Baileys block would be my second choice. How different they all look
dianna eickhorn
Tried leaving a comment yesterday but i dont see it today. Anyway i love the first kona solid block.
Rose Smith
Great looking blocks again! Quite sad to hear there’s only one more Wee Wander block to come – these have been my faces. Looking forward to seeing its replacement though.
Kathy h
Great kona colors. I haven’t really liked using solids much but I am loving these blocks.
Kathlen
Spent the day watching the Seahawks win, so I absolutely approve of your “Seahawks” block (even if it wasn’t intentional).
diane
Love the True Colors block this time around.
audrey
The blocks made out of the solids are very striking, but I’m especially enjoying the blocks with the printed fabrics. The subtlety is so much fun.:)
Kimberlee
Oh Scott you are so funny. Ambitious, but funny! Sad there’s only 1 more block of Wee Wanders left. Very interesting how the look of a block changes with different fabrics. Hope Max recovers quickly!
Crystal Flemmer
So I live in Oregon and could care less about the Ducks OR the Beavers. Now the Seahawks are another story. Love me some Hawks…so I’m totally digging your Kona block. 😉
Judy
My favorite today is your Kona block.
Pattie C
The solids look fab, the prints are messing with my head. The block looks too different in them.
Deb
Love that Silver, Storm, and Kale look!
Joy
I really like that you’re showing off the new kona colors – it’s nice to see them “in action.”
Tracy P
I am really enjoying seeing the blocks change so dramatically with your choice of colors:). Great job!
Sandy D
I just found your site because of Pat Sloan. I like what I am seeing.Love the solids.
Laura F.
Again fantastic! These are great color combos and of course I love the blocks!
Allyson LePenske
Really liked the Free Spirit block as well as the Grunge.
Melissa
Loving the greens. My favorite color.
Sandy K
I’m liking Kona’s Kale today.
Vicki H
I love the Churn Dash blocks for today.
Wenda
Love the block with the Heather Bailey fabrics!
Emily C
I love all the cute Wee Wander blocks. They are so adorable.
Mara
I like how the Kona solids turned out on this one, even if they are Seahawk colors, it would make a perfect quilt done in solids.
Shawn J
For some reason I keep gravitating to the solids from moda, great block!!
Stephanie Carter
the solids are growing on me, normally I like scrappy.
Alexis
The Wee Wander is my favorite here!
Sarah Vee
I really like the solid konas – I rarely make anything with solids so I’m surprised. I like the Wee Wander too. This block has so many possibilities – and yes I love being able to highlight/hide the churndash inside!
Sue
Again the Wee Wander looks amazing.
Jessica P.
I love the block that you commented that it made you hungry, the chocolate and mint block. The fabric is something I would choose myself. I may not have known what to do with it, like you did, but the fabric is def me.
nikki
I have been learning so much about the color and really letting go of the fear of it! I am in love with all of these so amazing seriously i cannot believe at times that they are the same block!
Laura
The wee wander block is very pretty. I’m a little in love with this line.
Becky Greene
I am now in love with Kona Storm! Must buy immediately!!
Amy C
So interesting how it looks like a churn dash block depending which color went where – so great to see it in a block to ‘get it’!
Kathy
I am scrolling thru these in reverse and just catching on why I didn’t see the Wee Wander blocks in the later days. They are truly to sweet not to do a whole quilt top out of.
Donna Joy
True colors has such unique fabric. I am enjoying seeing how the different fabrics change the look of the block.
LINDA
NEAT! I’D SELECT THE HEATHER BAILEY AS MY FAVORITE!
THANKS!
KellyS
It’s funny how the Wee Wander doesn’t even look like the same pattern until you look closer at it. Those Konas are my favorite colors! Nice combo!
Sarah
I’m going to have to invest in some grunge fabrics.
Janice
You really make us aware of what a difference the fabric makes. I have to quit being so match, match.
Judy Forkner
I always love this block best when the values make it a churn dash…
Kay
I always like to see a bit of fussy cutting so the Wee Wander block is delightful.
Kathy MacKied
MMMM, Chocolate mint!
nadia wilson
The Free Spirit fabrics are lovely in this version of the blocks. I like it!
Cathy Cameron
Michael Miller block is great!
Elizabeth S
Have to go with the grunge block on this one!
Margareth
I love all the blocks they are just so wonderful. New year new beginning leaving all the nonsense behind (I hope)
Deborah Hillman
Amazing how they are all sooooo different…. Not a big fan of the grunge in this color:(
Linda Roberts
I love all of the colors, and the Mint is wonderful, but what a wonderful assortment of colors, Love them all
Linda Fleming
Love the different fabric placements.
My favorites are the Kona colors and Heather Bailey’s True Colors fabrics – definitely yummy!
Carolyn Montgomery
love the kona block, it gives the illusion of being folded.
