Special Guest Star!

Special Guest Star!

Hey there peeps! My friend Katy over across the pond wrote me an email awhile back asking if I would be interested in helping her get the word out on her friend Nel Whatmore’s new line Secret Garden. Of course I said sure! Now we are finally on the same place and close enough to the same time to join together and present our little Blog Post Swap! So hop on over to Katy’s to hear what I had to say about Nel’s line (and what I started working on with it) and read on here to hear Katy’s side of the story!

Hi! My name is Katy and you can usually find me blogging on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, at Monkey Do. Ages and ages and ages ago Scott and I had a conversation about a friend of mine that designs for Free Spirit, Nel Whatmore and I thought it would be fun to do a little blog post swap where we both made something using her latest line of fabric, Secret Garden.

I was making a couple of quilts for Nel to hang in her stand at the festival of quilts in Birmingham, UK, this Summer and with some of the leftover pieces I made this pillow

Butterfly pillow

I used a heavyweight canvas for the background and fused fabric to some stiff interfacing (I used bosal craftex which is fusible on one side). The fused fabrics were then fed through my Sizzix big shot using the butterfly die. I wanted the appliques to be 3D, so I just stitched them on through the centre of each butterfly. It was a really fast project and I think the 3D butterflies are quite effective on a decorative pillow.

In a twist of fate, Scott also used the Sizzix big shot to make his project (you can see what he got up to on my blog)

Secret garden is available to purchase now from Hawthorne Threads, it’s a really gorgeous collection and so easy to use. I also used it to make this dresden plate quilt, a pattern for which will shortly be available on Nel’s website.

Thanks for stopping by Katy! Maybe someday I will actually get myself across to your little gem of an island for a visit in person!

And to the rest of you fine folks, I hope you enjoyed our little post exchange!!  Sew on and Stay happy!!
