#groovyscraps

Yesterday, I showed you some snippets of my Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt. Today I am showing you a little scrap project that I designed for Generation Q Magazine last fall. It is Groovy and I just love this block even if I do say so myself…and I just did….

I am making it for my daughter’s bedroom from a fat quarter collection of Little Village from Clothworks.  I wanted something “modern” (don’t get me started on that “definition” for quilting…at least for today that is 🙂 ) but I also wanted a very sweet, girly feel for her.  Mimi loves a Japanese aesthetic, so this line is just perfect for her in that respect. And it has a long lasting charm I think that she can take with her when she goes out into the real world someday….

One thing that I did to save a little time on the piecing was that I sewed random width strips (from 1.25″ to 2.5″) x 13″ long together to make a super WIDE scrappy center strip, then cut that into 2″ strips for the center.  And though I am using just the Little Village line in this quilt, I thought it would be fun to have others take their scraps from various projects (like the Scrappy Tripalong) and share their GroovyScraps photos on Instagram and Flickr.  For Intstagram just give your pics the #groovyscraps hashtag and for Flickr share them here.

I haven’t definitely made my mind up about a setting for them, but will let you know when I do.

What other ideas do you have for scraps? They are a blessing and a curse all at the same time to me! 🙂

Hope to see your Groovy Scraps on Instagram and Flickr soon!!
