I love your bird house. You know it’s for Purple Martins and there is a time line when you open the house up and when you close it down. In order to attract them you really need to have it open when the scouts come around each year and once they are established, the same ones will return year after year as long as you don’t have a lot of other birds invading the house like sparrows or wrens. read up on the habits of martins and they will become almost tame around you! Wonderful birds to watch!

I got a birdhouse a couple of years ago with visions of butterfly bushes and birds outside my window. Then my cats decided to become outdoor cats. (They were pretty adamant about it and it was let them out or put them out of my misery myself) It seemed pretty cruel to invite the birds in and offer them up to O’Malley who sees himself as the mighty hunter. He was obviously an outdoor cat before I rescued him from the pound. I had to send the birdhouse to my mom.
