147: Monaco Aviary begins

147: Monaco Aviary begins

The Monaco Aviary Quilt begins….My third quilt for My friends at  Free Spirit Fabrics.

The fabric “Monaco” by Dena Designs .    The colors remind me of sherbert, summer, and California among other things…VERY much needed around here after all the snow we’ve had this winter!

The peacocks crack me up because they kind of look like ducks to me, but I think they are supposed to be regular peacocks….A very imaginative domestic peacock I guess…

The orange and pink fabric above….that is probably my favorite!

Gosh, what cool shoes!>>>

I wonder who did those?  Oh, me! That’s right!

This rose fabric was the only one of its kind…I like it, but I hope more colorways come later…

Then came the deciding phases….         what to use for background?

And what to use for “feature” fabrics?  Bleu or Blanc that was the biggest question I had….you will have to wait until tomorrow to see which I chose!   Blue (Bleu)     White (Blanc)

Which would you choose and why?  I will show you which I finally chose tomorrow, but I am curious what you would have chosen…leave me a comment…if I get enough comments (how many is that?)  I will draw names and send you a couple fat quarters or so of Monaco.  This line is so new that this may be the first place the general public has seen it, so let the world know okay!!    🙂   I have a ton of pictures from my outdoors shoots to post still as well as more Monaco shots…so come back tomorrow ( I HOPE I get it done tomorrow…this post was started yesterday or the day before, and I couldn’t get the pictures to come up)

Keep Sewing, Keep Happy, Dudes!

  • I would use the Bleu as the focal fabric … well.. it seems to pop more to me. Scientific, right? LOL.

  • Overall, I like the blanc fabric better…that said, I would use the Bleu with that quilt. I like the way it pops off of the yellow fabric and plays off of the other blues. Just my humble opinion 🙂

  • I think the blue on the yellow really pops so I would pick that. I too love the rose and the duck/peacocks…very cute! Nice shoes too btw!

Yeah, I finally got to wear the shoes out today! I am going to wear them to Market in Spring…I am so psyched for that!

  • The Blanc is beautiful but that Bleu absolutely POPS!

  • Without a doubt, the peacocks on the white background. And why? CONTRAST!! What about a very narrow blue border around the peacocks on the white background? Maybe even that stripey fabric?

Can’t wait to see what you choose!

  • I love the last one with the white background peacock on the yellow. It just looks so summery and light. It is wonderful!:)

  • I’d go with the blanc myself, just because I really like it, and and it looks like there might be enough blue in it anyway 🙂

  • I would choose the blue – mainly because it seems to POP more and because I love blue. Can’t wait to see the finished product. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • hmmm, comment #1 never wins, but I’ll go for it anyway! i was originally going to say the white, because white focus fabrics are so rarely used and it is nice for a change … but i’m going with the blue because of how nicely it picks up the other blue fabric in the border you started. i like the continuity between the two blues.

  • I would choose the Bleu (blue). I love blue and this blue seems to really pop!

  • Yes, I think the peacocks look like ducks but the fabric is lovely so who cares? In fact, they are all lovely so it will be look great!
My grandson, Jacob, asked me to leave you a message and thank you for the blue nickle. Some time ago, I commented that he was intrigued when I showed him that you were painting nickles blue. Then when I won the fabric panel for my entry in your great Tootsie Pop Challenge, you included two blue nickles and I figured one was for me, one for my grandson. So that’s what I told him anyway, and now he says “THANKS!”
If you want to see the creative fun we had together this past weekend go here … http://grandmaskeeter.blogspot.com/
I just have one grandchild so am making it fun while it lasts!

I am so glad that your grandson really likes his Blue Nickel….I thought it was a hoot to paint them that is for sure!

I agree with pretty much everyone that the blue does POP. The white (blanc) looks so Pennsylvania Dutch, but the blue looks Bohemian. The blanc would look nice in diamond shaped blocks rather than rectangular with a blue border fabric.
