Back to the Country

Back to the Country

Today I have a special post brought to you by my dear friends at Country Threads. I have known Mary and Connie since I first discovered the “professional” world of quilting back in the early 90’s. Yeah it’s been awhile.
Mary and Connie were THE THING back then when country-style quilting was big. And their style suited me just fine. Never really too worried about every corner being perfect. Embracing individual tweaks here and there.

To ME, very much like “modern quilting” — but in Country colors.

They ran a quilt shop on Mary’s in a Chicken Coop. I know some of you remember them. Back then Mary wrote the Goat Gazette — I have kept most of the  issues that I subscribed to. TONS of down home personality in those pages. A familiar family voice, always inviting, always kind, always friendly (unless you were cruel to animals). Quilt Mysteries, Sales, Free Patterns, Recipes, and Stories about people and the animals in Mary’s and Connie’s lives as well as their staff’s. It was a pretty awesome little newspaper with much more cheerful headlines than you could find then (or now).

Back in Touch!

We had kind of lost track of each other as our lives got busier and all over the years. I am happy to say that we have reconnected and you can get all of that country farm welcome I used to get in the Goat Gazette by subscribing to Mary’s blog over at Country Threads Chicken Scratch. She writes OFTEN – way more than I do. In fact she just started a Bullseye quilt-a-long last week that I think will go at a pace that I won’t get too far behind on. (Maybe – Hahahaha)

On to the Main Event!

But what today’s post is about is the special mini version of my United Colors pattern. Mary and Connie wanted to make in a mini version of United Colors. Mary asked me if they could make a smaller version and if I would like to give everyone a bonus sheet of their downsized measurements with every purchase of my United Colors pattern.

Of course I said yes, and of course, I had to make a mini version too! I took some old bits of recycled shirts that my friend Charlotte Tucker gave me YEARS ago and combined them with some of my Tie One On batiks. I had been saving the shirt bits for something special, but never sure just what. This seemed to fit the bill. I have another project with those shirt bits planned for down the road as well, so stay tuned.

Tie One On Scraps
Recycled Shirts — mostly 🙂

And here is how I combined them. What do you think?

My Mini Version of United Colors!

So if you buy a copy of my United Colors pattern on line you get the original pattern, plus a bonus sheet with adjusted measurements to make this mini version as well (this is a Variation of the original (fewer blocks) I didn’t want to make as many blocks! 🙂 ) AND from now until Valentines Day, you can get a Country Threads Discount on my patterns. Just head on over to this Country Threads Chicken Scratch blog post for the discount coupon code in my Etsy shop! The discount is good on patterns only.

That’s today’s post, people!! Already many more posts this month than December. WHAT happened to December, eh?

Keep Sewing, Keep Happy,

Scott

  • What a great idea! I love Mary and Connie and have several of their books, one on small quilt designs and the other on civil war designs, and I think their designs are very modern.
I’ll get my order in when I get back from quilt meeting,
    I gotta run, thanks!
