What Remains

What Remains

Welcome to the Spirit Animal Post. This line is Tula Pink‘s latest and much discussed line for Free Spirit Fabrics.

The focus print from this line has been been discussed many times over and was pulled from the line even before it hits the store shelves this fall. If fact, the day the fabric showed up here, I had an email requesting that I send back the three colorways of the pulled print that I had just received.

I am not really interested in getting into that discussion here at the Blue Nickel.  If you want to read more about the issue you will find quite a few articles to read here.  I personally just want to concentrate on the beauty of the remaining prints that will be on the shelves this September.

The Cheddar and the Spruce colors in this lineup are totally rocking it. Ms. Pink always nails color combinations completely, but this time she REALLY did a tremendous job here.

The celestially styled Otters are the new fun Feature print and great for fussy cutting (even though I didn’t actually do much of that yet! ) and the scattered bear/star? print is a great “non-solid” solid !! (my Favorite kind of solid!) Oh and the little flowers with faces totally remind me of Alice in Wonderland even before I heard that was part of Tula‘s inspiration for them!

I wanted to make a fresh version of one of my current patterns to have a quilt at Spring Quilt Market in the Checker Distributors Booth. If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that I picked my Twister pattern to work up in Spirit Animal.

Here it is on the design wall with some color planning, etc.

Here are some sweet leftover Quarter Square Triangles that I threw on the design wall for fun.

And here is the full real deal at Market on a Very Orange-Red carpet!!   My original Twister Quilt was created in a large variety of novelty fabrics in all of the colors 🙂 on a black/grey background.
I love how this concentration of a more narrowly defined but very vibrant palette positively radiates a rich and colorful image.

I played with breaking down typical “quilt rules,” particularly on the sashing. Do you like what I did with the cornerstones on the corner block with the cheddar background?

+ + + + + + + + +

And very briefly, I had a lot of Tula‘s Nest from probably a decade ago, so I put that on the back! It seemed most appropriate!

That’s it for today. Hope your JUNE weekend is going well……June already??  How is that possible???

Keep Sewing, Keep Happy,

Scott
