Market Swag Giveaway!

Market Swag Giveaway!

Happy Pre-Holiday Rush, people!

DSC_3000

Today’s post is a quick little “Kinda-Related-To-The-Holidays” sorta post. In a tongue-in-cheek-commercial-jab sorta way.  Wow that was a bunch of reckless grammar/punctuation carnage. You’d think an English major would know better. Oh well….on to the post!

About a month ago I was on my way to Quilt Market in Houston where I met with a bunch of old and new friends in the quilting industry.  (this ties into the above paragraph because “Market” and mad holiday shopping kind of relate…get it??)  It was a blast, and I got showered with an assortment of freebies, far more than I could absorb, so I thought it would be fun to give one of you a little “mini” Market swag bag. Actually LOTS of Bags. EVERYONE gave bags away.

Although, I will say that THIS BAG is the best of them all.

And I want to give a big shout out to David Weinstein, President of Andover Fabrics, who saved this Lizzie House Unicorn Bag especially for me. He was disappointed the next day when I was using a different Andover bag than this one, but I told him that I was saving the bag for one of you to win fresh and unused. So make sure you thank him by going over to Andover Fabrics and check out their lines. They have some fantastic stuff! And then buy it all up online or in your local shops! 🙂

So here you go, the second giveaway this month. I will draw names tomorrow morning on the first giveaway, so be sure to go here to read about it and comment there.  And comment here for a chance to win this prize.  Let’s have your comment here be about shopping or non shopping or funny stories about shopping, markets, etc. You get the picture. I will probably draw names on Today’s post on Wednesday next week.

I love the unicorn bag. I love going to quilt shows and seeing all of the vendors and I always come home with so many goodies that I need to start bringing a rolling suitcase with me. Thanks for sharing your market goodies with us.

Shopping??!! What quilting gal doesn’t like shopping…especially for fabrics! Personally I never leave a brick and mortar store without doing my part to support the quilting industry….actually I do my part rather well with online stores too. I can never have enough fabric…if I could, I’d have some of most new lines in my studio. I really need to quit my day job and open my own quilt store because then I might feel like I have enough fabrics. I have never been to ‘market’ I live vicariously through everyone else’s blog posts about markets. Hopefully in the near future I will have the opportunity to attend market. Until then, keep writing those of you who do go, because there’s lots of us out here drooling through your posts.

If I’m lucky enough to win, I’m going to gift the unicorn bag to my husband’s niece – purple is her favorite color & her mom loves unicorns (they may fight over it). Shopping is not my favorite activity, but I love quilt shops. An annual event that a friend & I have attended for the last several years is the Quilting & Fiber Art Marketplace that takes place in Sanford, NC in January. Thanks for the great giveaway.

Shopping is enjoyable if it is a quilt shop, book store, art supply store or hardware store…. maybe a gourmet food market as well. Shopping for clothes is torture!

My husband drove me to my local quilt shop a couple of weeks ago. I needed to go because I was out of Best Press. He decided to wait in the car and told me I had 5 minutes. 🙂 I told the ladies in the shop that and we laughed and laughed. Of course I was there like half an hour and came out with some templates and lush fabric too.

  • I don’t have any funny shopping stories. If I go shopping in a real store I usually have a toddler in tow who is less than impressed in my store choice (if it was a Frozen shop on the other hand…). But last time we went to my LQS she did charm all the ladies by sitting very quietly and patiently watching videos on my phone while I looked around. Until she threw a tantrum when it was time to leave. Sometimes you just can’t win

I now love shopping! When I first started sewing, though, the wide selection of fabrics at the fabric store, combined with my tendencies of anxiety in new situations and inability to make up my mind made me so scatterbrained that I put my wallet down somewhere in the store. Someone picked it up, removed the cash, and tossed it outside. Someone else found it and mailed it to me! Nothing but the cash was removed, so I was grateful for that, and the kind soul that mailed it to me. 🙂 thanks for the giveaway!

The purple unicorn fabric is very nice. Last time I went shopping for fabric another shopper wanted me to be sure I didn’t buy it all because she wanted some.

I always say I love to shop but then when I get to the store I am ready to find what I need and then go home. I guess it depends on the store and what I am shopping for. Craft and fabric stores are always fun and I can spend lots of time in Costco but I think that is because the selection of things I find interesting constantly changes.

  • Thanks for the giveaway!. With 9 grandkids, I start shopping early – and stash things away for the holidays. The trouble is, I sometimes find those stashed goodies AFTER the holidays. So this year, I got a GIANT paper bag, and all the early bird presents go in that bag. Now all I need to do is wrap — and remember who gets what.

Shopping and the Holidays make me cringe. One year probably about eight years ago, my husband and I did a Black Friday sale in which we almost got trampled. We stood in line all night and when the doors were about to open at least one hundred people ignored the line of about three-hundred people and came up to the door. We were second in line, and I thought we were going to be on the news as being trampled to death. It was the first and the last time I would ever participate in Black Friday shopping. It was my own fault, I had seen the awful things on the news before but some other stores were giving tickets and we thought this store would do the same, but you live and you learn. Now you can take me to a fabric/craft store any day but Black Friday and you may not see me all day. Have a great day!

I always say to myself before going in to a fabric store. “You know what you want, get that and leave.” But then I loose track of time. I think that happens to all quilters and crafters.

  • I refuse to shop on Black Friday and applaud REI for being closed and advising us to enjoy nature–however, I might stay home and enjoy quilting.

  • Fabulous! If picked it would be like Christmas in November!

My shopping story isn’t about a fabric store.

A few years ago the day or so before Thanksgiving I was in Walmart, originally to get supplies for my mom, but then I decided to pick up some food. It was so much fun to listen in on people discussing what they were having.

There was a mom and daughter – the daughter was going to bring something for the first time to the event – her mom grabbed margarine and the girl said how she needed to use butter for the dish. Then they talked about how their sister/aunt had made the dish that was going with the first dish.

There was a man and his toddler – he was looking for and was so happy to find pimento. I asked him what he needed that for and he said his mom always made potato salad for Thanksgiving and and the pimento made it so special and nice. It was nice.

I found out that I can order my mom’s stuff to be delivered to the house directly so that will save time, but I will miss overhearing the happy conversations.

Thank you for the chance and for your blog with so much inspiration!

  • A shopping story? One day, around Christmastime, many years ago, we were at the cash register and my daughter asked me for a DVD that was on display. I said no, so she looked at my sister. My sister explained to her “you know I don’t have a job right now so I can’t” and we left the DVD there. As we were heading to our car, the lady that was in line behind us gave my daughter the DVD. So sweet.

I went to Houston for the show a year ago and helped many vendors get rid of their wares. Almost to the point that I had a hard time packing to get on the plane home. I found out that I could have only one carry on so I did a lot of repacking at the airport. But I loved it there!

We took my sons car to get the snow tires put on today and do a little shopping. Clearly, the emphasis should have been on little. Once we stopped at a couple stores and with my son’s small car and the 4 summer tires, there was hardly room for both us and the shopping.

Last year, after over a decade of avoiding it, I went shopping with my daughter on Black Friday. We left home about 3:30 and it was really dark!! I live in the sticks, so it took us an hour+ to get to the first stop where my daughter bought so much (and such big stuff) that we couldn’t fit it all into the back of my truck! Our husband’s got a call and they had to come with my husband’s truck to fit the really big stuff in to bring it home. Of course, she lived over 6 hours away from me and all her stuff wasn’t going to fit into her little Civic, so I had to make 2 separate trips to her house to get all her goodies there! I will miss seeing her this Thanksgiving, since the Army sent her to Hawaii for the next three+ years…no Black Friday shopping for me this year! The bag and swag are so awesome!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!

Our first snow fell last night and I am so thankful to have it be my scheduled day off. Snow fall and working in a grocery store do not mix! Need eggs, milk, bread, or toilet paper? Sorry, that 4 inches of snow is equivalent to the zombie apocalypse and the shelves are bare. And no, there is not a hidden storage room filled with only the items you need.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to the trouble of making a shopping list, then I leave it behind on the counter. If my husband is home, I’ll have him take a picture of the list and send it to me on my cell phone. He has saved me many times! duchick at gmail dot com

I went to a rather popular craft show at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia. My daughter was in an umbrella stroller and it was just horrible pushing her around on the gravel. I dragged her into the ladies room/outhouse to quickly (well you know) so I wouldn’t wet myself pushing the stroller, and when I came out, I didn’t realize my very pretty broomstick skirt was tucked into the back of my pantyhose. I walked around that event for {who knows how long!} before I realized it was SO BREEZY! And people were looking at me strange… I thought it was because I was having such a hard time with the stroller. I am sure I looked like a lunatic. Really. Now, I shop on line. A lot. I don’t know how many people “saw” me that day, but I was just mortified!
