Day Nine #12DaysofColor!

Day Nine #12DaysofColor!

12 days of color logo

Yeah! we are in the home stretch now!! Today is Day Nine of the 12 Days of Color!  With today’s post, we bid goodbye to Jug or Not and bring in the third collection by the people at Michael Miller, Blue and White.  Oh, and I thought that I should clarify something a bit with the Michael Miller lines.  Many of you may already know this, but some don’t; I can tell by the comments. Michael Miller is not an actual person. The company Michael Miller is the brain child of Kathy Miller and Michael Steiner who started the company years ago from a rented space in NYC years ago.  Recently I found out that Kathy got married and is now living in California, while Michael still resides in NYC where there offices are still located. So when I was talking about Jug or Not from Michael Miller, I meant the company not an actual designer. For all of their non-licensed prints, I think Kathy has a team of in-house people that she oversees on those. And Kathy is the one who rules on the color portions I think.  Now Wee Wander was a licensed line by Sarah Jane, so that is all Sarah’s creativity.  I just saw which line I should have brought in from Michael Miller for this project, and I don’t know how I missed it, but look at Stitches. Those look like great blenders, don’t they?!

Also yesterday, Mara’s comment gave me quite a scare, so I had to check with my friend, Lissa, over at Moda, if they were indeed getting rid of Grunge. The thought sent shivers down my spine, I love that stuff (when I was at Sisters, last summer, one of my students brought in a big hunk of one of the grey grunge. I loved it so much, right after class I went downtown and picked a big chunk of it up…..Linda saw it when I got home, and rolled her eyes big time! She doesn’t get my love for the “gritty” stuff.)  Anyway, Lissa reassured me that Grunge is NOT going away, in fact they are bringing in more colors next year (it is almost Next Year now! YEAH! More Grunge!)

Okay now onto the blocks for today. Today’s block is by Kimberly Einmo.  Her interview with Pat Sloan is here. And the directions for Kimberly’s block are here.

Here is the Kona block done up in — in Bluegrass and Cedar:

D12days Kona9

Here is the third (and sadly last) Jenean Morrison True Colors  from Free Spirit Block (I really wish that I had more time to talk about each of the wonderful designers for these True Colors lines, I know each of them individually, though not as well as I would like, but I can tell you this….they are all truly amazingly talented and wonderfully sweet people, each and every one of them!) (oh, and looking at this block now, I could have fussy-cut those rectangles in the center, but I didn’t even think about it when I was making it!):

D1wdays JM3

Here is the first Blue And White  From Michael Miller Block:

D12days B&W1

Here is the Grunge From Moda block:

D12days G9

And here are the Aurifil threads of the day (2110 and 2250):

D12days thread 9

So again, if you’ve been following this series, you know what to do! Comment here for the daily prizes as well as making yourself eligible for the grand prizes at the end of the series. If you just jumped in the fray, be sure to comment on every day of the 12 Days of Color to be entered in to win the large and small prizes.  Your comment can be about anything in the post, this general time of year, your garden, your New Year’s resolutions, whatever.

I will likely be drawing names New Year’s Day as well as taking down the Christmas Festivus Stuff. So make sure to get all of your comments in by then! I promise that I will get the packages out before the US Post Office raises their rates (great incentive!).  Now back to sewing…Almost there, almost there…..

Thanks for the info about Michael Miller et al. I am in total awe of fabric designers and the huge variety of designs that are out there! They make a fabric lover’s life truly heaven (and “hellish”—not enough money, time, space etc). But oh so fun to dream! I am professing my love of the grunge blck today…but I am fickle!

I like them all, esp. the ones with the sharper edges from the solids or almost solids. Great block to play with. So glad that Grunge isn’t going away. I still have trouble playing with only solids, so I depend on the fabrics like Grunge to be the bridge! There’s just something about a textured ‘solid’ that I will choose every time if I have a choice between that a true solid fabric.

All of the blocks are fabulous today, but Grunge is still my favorite. I have a hard time putting solids together to look good, but your blocks always look fantastic. I think I need to add more to my stash, especially the Grunge. It is a rainy, dreary day where I live today-perfect for sewing so back in the sewing room I go. Have a great sewing day yourself!

  • I am so sorry to give you a scare, I was scared too, I looked up where I thought I saw the info and I guess it is the Moda Crossweave, that is going out? I really like the Stitches Square, what a really awesome low volume fabric that would be to have on hand.

Don’t know about the Crossweave, Stitches square? Do you mean the Blue and White? I mentioned Stitches in the post, but only that I had not seen it before I started up this big adventure….

Yes I meant the Stitches that you mentioned above, I had not seen them either, I think they would have been very cool to play with compared to Jug or Not.

Just checked out your website after looking at the offerings for Sister’s 2014 Quilters Affair classes. I really like the “Painted Forest” and “Beauty in the Bark” projects!! This information about the manufacturers is interesting and I learned something about “Grunge.” Didn’t think I’d like it but it adds an element of dimension that enhances the block. Good job!
