Day Eight #12DaysofColor!

Day Eight #12DaysofColor!

12 days of color logo

Well, I’m back at this. I took a couple of days off for Christmas, hopefully you got to do the same. Today is Day Eight on the 12 Days of Color Journey I have been on. Today’s block is designed by Jill Finley.  Her interview with Pat Sloan is here, and Jill’s block directions are here.  I had fun messing with fabric and color placement in the original pattern and took quite a few liberties with “background” and “feature” fabrics. The Jenean Morrison True Colors and Grunge blocks are closest to the look of the original block.

Here is the Kona block done up in — in Smoke and Capri:

D12days Kona8

Here is the second Jenean Morrison True Colors  from Free Spirit Block (I like how this block is “blurry.” I think some blocks should be that way particularly if the whole quilt is the same block. I think it adds mystery to the viewer):

D12days JM2

Here is the fourth Jug or Not From Michael Miller Block:

D12days JoN4

Here is the Grunge From Moda block:

D12days G8

And here are the Aurifil threads of the day (5005 and 2225):

D12days thread 8

That’s it for today. Go ahead and comment on today’s post about the blocks, the fabrics, the thread, or anything else you want to talk about (the holidays, the return lines, the new year, whatever!) I will be drawing one daily prize winner from each day’s post as well as drawing names from all 12 Days of Color for the Grand Prizes…(which I still haven’t given you pix of, but they will be great, trust me!)  I will likely be drawing the winners on New Year’s Day because I think that is when the whole series will be done by.  I am working on the rest of Day Nine’s blocks tonight for tomorrow’s post, and then on Saturday for Days 10 through 12 (if I can get through them all!) Until tomorrow….Sweet Dreams and Sweet Sewing!!

  • I have been nail biting in anticipation for day 8 #12DaysofColor! We celebrate gently at our home and my 86 yr old mom has been visiting so I’ve been minding my p’ & q’s. A few minutes alone with you and the blog takes me away, since I am deathy allergic to fragrance, to a better place than Calgon ever could. Kona & Grunge – ah yes! With tiny embroidered something’s miscellaneous lay placed, hmmmm. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to wait until 2014 to start Christmas work. Good job. Don’t forget, you are allowed to take a deep breath!

Nope, Mara, Moda is NOT getting rid of Grunge, I checked! They are actually bringing in more colors next year! (see Day 9’s post)

If I could, I would give you a nickel for making those blocks. They look very complicated to me, and doesn’t look like one I would attempt. Great job on making them. I really love the colors of the thread today. They look so pretty together. Thanks for all your work.
