Splish Splash……

Splish Splash……

So awhile back, The peeps at Olfa sent me a message on Facebook asking if I would like to try out the new Splash rotary cutter from Olfa.  I said sure, why not!?

From what I read about it, they were really hyping up the color…..which really doesn’t matter too much to me…BUT it is blue….and well, that’s always good for business, right??  😉

But I didn’t know how I would like it compared to my “ergonomic”  Olfa that I have been loving ever since it replaced my original Olfa…..

I finally picked it up the the other day….

Here’s what I liked about it:

  • It was amazingly light. That really surprised me. I think I liked that. Probably do more than I know.
  • The little ridges along the handle are supposed to help prevent your hand from slipping and cutting yourself, but the blade doesn’t retract when you let go as it does in my ergonomic one.  So I am not sure how I feel about that one.
  • It was like cutting butter on a hot day….so smooth and clean….of course that could be just because it was a new blade. Heaven knows when I last changed my Ergo blade!
  • Now on changing blades? That’s where this Splash made my day.  I have always hated changing blades, and this is so easy on the Splash. Just pop in and out….no messy springs, screwing some little fly-away nut back on, just pop, change, and pop back in. LOVED that!

That’s about all I have to say on this little tool…. You know I a not much of a “tool” guy, but if you need a new rotary cutter and you are sick of changing blades the other way….then go ahead and get this one.  At least you won’t have to change a blade on one for awhile cause you’ll have this new one that cuts like butter.

  • I bought a new Olfa a few months ago, the original style, seems to work best for me, left handed. The blade was great for the first few weeks, but then it was like cutting through rocks and I had to change it within a month. didn’t cut any pins, so that wasn’t the problem, it just lost it’s edge. Other than that, I have not complaints about the Olfa products.

I think this cutter is quite expensive. That’s a consideration, even though I’d love to have one. Changing blades scares me. This sounds like a good answer to that. I haven’t seen them in any shops yet, though.,
