Swedish Meatballs anyone?

Swedish Meatballs anyone?

Okay so this post is WAYYYYYY late in coming. I started it TWO years ago! (yes, I kept it in here that long….I’m completely nuts, I know)

If you have been following me on Instagram at all (or Facebook or Twitter as all my Instagramming goes there automatically) You know that I started a massive cleanup in the studio on Memorial Day Weekend.  It is not done, yet, but already it is SOOO much more fun to sew in.  And I have at least ten boxes of  fabric to de-stash on Instagram down the road (not right now, I am working on at least four projects…all with looming deadlines of course)

So Anyhoooo…….the below is the beginning of this post two years back and features my cutting table transformation.

This is the before bit:

Antonius, Grundton, Aneboda, Kvart, Klavsta…..so are those assorted names for various bacteria?  World dishes from the Bite of Seattle?    No, they are the names of some of the home supplies we bought at IKEA awhile back!  Been working on getting a new cutting table together in the studio and had so many projects going on that the pictures weren’t ready til now…even then it is a little sloppier than I would like….I just have a creative clutter mentality I guess…..Drives Linda crazy, even though she mainly just looks away…I know it drives her nuts, and I try to clean…but it never lasts too long…

I wrote the italicized bit above back when I started this post.  And now to flash forward to more recent days….

The “Hoarders” view before the “deep cleansing” started on  Memorial Day this year…..First off, I have been quilting voraciously since 1995, and I never felt that I had “enough” fabric….you know the feeling, you know you do…….And somehow living in the midst of  it, it just seems all wonderfully fabricy…..barely workable, but wonderful and inspiring  (and just so you know the rest of the house does NOT look like this…ever…..)

And here is where we are now on the project:

There is still MUCH to do…but I really want this space BACK….so slowly but surely, it will be healed….it was a long slow process of five years or more since I moved into this space to get OUT of control…it will take more than a few weeks to reclaim it.

Although I am happy to report, that I haven’t found old cookies in the corners or blackberries growing in there…..it’s all in your perspective right??

More posts of the progress will follow….eventually….

  • It is nice to see I am not alone! I see so much beautiful fabric hidden in there.

  • You are making great progress. Love the new cutting table arrangement — with the cutting mat at a comfortable height, and all those DRAWERS so handy underneath!!

    You are an inspiration.

  • You’re making progress. That’s what counts. When I see that, I don’t see a mess. I see a creative genius at work.

  • I’ve been rearranging rooms and trying to do some spring cleaning, so my sewing room doesn’t look too much different than yours. I will regain control soon. Very soon.

  • Oh my, I feel so much better! I think you need to set yourself a few incentives along the way… that don’t involve the purchase of fabric! 😉 Can’t wait to see the finished photos! A place for everything to return to is my advice!!! My studio ebbs and flows in similar fashion! You will not know yourself when it’s done! 🙂 Keep up the good work!

It’s amazing how good organizing and purging can make us feel. It’s looking great in there Scott and much less like a fabric store threw up ;o) Have fun and happy creating.
