Meet Lois……

Meet Lois……

Hey there, Blue Nickelites, Meet Lois….Lois is the newest addition to our family….and actually came into the fold back in July after my Escort Wagon died (un-named because nothing ever came up, and I never really liked that car anyway…it broke down a lot the first couple years,  then was fine for many, many more….finally died BIG time this summer at 271, ooo miles….so a decent car to be sure….but no name….)

Behind Lois is “El Crusto” as my son calls the van he drives to school (Once he wanted to spray paint that on the side of the van, but we pretty much think that is asking for trouble in many forms)….Linda’s van isn’t really named either, other than the “Good Van”….

We got Lois from a local pastor who put a whole 550 miles a month on Lois. Not much…..but Lois’s original owner, also a Lois, only put 26K or so on her from 1989 to 2006 when she sold our Lois to Pastor Ed……and Lois One, the original owner, wrote down EVERYTHING in this little notebook, which Pastor Ed gave to me, much to my delight.

Lois is a 1989 Cutless Ciera that had only 67K on her even though she was 22+ years old.  Her insides were mint condition, just a little bit of wear.  She’s already a bit unhappy with me, as I am not quite as tidy as her previous owners.

I am more than happy to own a car that was owned by the “little old lady who barely drove her, but took excellent care of her”…..Lois and I have the best conversations with God as we drive along….the best…..

Does your car have a name? Please share!!

My car is a Mitsubishi, but he’s been called “Otto” since Day One. He’s baby blue, and I love German names (even on Japanese cars). 🙂

  • My husband calls my minivan “the garbage scow,” but that’s not a great name, is it?

In high school my mom got a new car and passed down her old maroon Volvo. My mom and my best guy friend were both big Bruce Springsteen fans. One day we had Bruce in the tape deck, and were getting on the highway. My best friend exclaimed, “Go Clarence!”. I thought he was talking to the car. Turns out he was talking to Clarence Clemens, Bruce’s saxophone player. But naturally the car was deemed “Clarence” from then on.

  • Congrats on Lois!
My 1981 Isuzu P’up was “Squeaks”. His odometer stuck at 230,999 miles – about 7 years before I sold him to my BFF in 2006. He’s still going strong, driving to Disneyland at least 5 days a week to take Bill to work.

Now I drive “Hank”, my 2006 Chevy HHR. Hank & I get along famously. Just the 2 of us went on an almost 5000 mile roadtrip in ’07, with nary a problem!

  • I’ve had a Peanut and a Blueberry but haven’t found a name that suits my current car… Though I had a rental for 2 weeks and that was promptly named Pepsi as it was black and very peppy 🙂

This conversation brings back memories with a friend. He is currently driving Cindy. Mine is a 2000 Nissan Frontier breathing heavily on 127K miles. She has been “Nissie” since day one. I should say she properly should be referred to as “Nissie II” as she replaced a similar vehicle. We love to put on some “rowdy” music and go truckin’.

Last summer my 2 kids and I all bought the same cars – VW Golf’s. To keep them straight, even tho different colors, my son named his “Bruce” (as he’s a Batman lover and his golf is a beautiful black), my daughter had the unfortunate mishap of hitting a skunk shortly after getting hers, thus “Pepe”, and mine is named “Lou”, neither male nor female, just zippy. We all love our golf’s – why am I the only one to get a speeding ticket thus far?
