302: Paint by Numbers….

302: Paint by Numbers….

This summer our plan is to paint our house because we freaking need to or else want to brighten things up around here…..but choosing colors on your house is a little more “permanent” than a quilt that you can switch out periodically….So I have decided to invite you my friends to help us choose……and if you have small fry who are driving you crazy this summer, you can let them help as well……..So now we have the first official Blue Nickel Summer Coloring Contest!  And for our favorite entry there will be a prize of fabric….how does 10 Fat Quarters sound?

So get those kids working for you….you don’t have to tell them that you are keeping their prize.

Since I like to get cool correspondence too…I will give a second prize to the most decorated envelope that comes in as well…how about 5 fat quarters for that?    Entries are due here at the house on August 15th, so make sure you mail it in plenty of time to get here.  You can email a scanned copy if you want, but then you will miss out on the secondary prize of  5 fat quarters.

And here is your obligatory picture that I pretty much require of myself these days:

I saved this cedar from a parking lot bed where I was weeding as part of  Workville maintenance about 4 years ago….it was just about 3 inches then….I am hoping to bonsai it….typically when I plant these trees in the ground they don’t grow all that fast, but I think this one is, so I may kill it trying to bonsai it, but we’ll see.   The big blue pot was a gift from my parents last Christmas…I am so in love with that planter….makes me feel all sort of grown up and French I think….so completely silly, huh? …..but that’s me…..   🙂

Okay so break out the crayons, colored pencils, or watercolors and  get those kids to work….  oh, if you insist, You can enter too, in fact I hope you do!!  Just download the PDF here, color, and mail away.  I can’t wait to see what you all come up with…

  • Yes, you are very French with that pot! I have one very similar in my garden but mine is very old and has a huge crack in it now, yours is still nice and shiny! Linda

  • What great fun! I just printed out enough for me and my kids to color… and if you don’t find colors you like from the contest, check out the online color visulaizer at http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/paint_colors/paint_color_palette/visualizer/ It was so helpful when we painted a few years ago, and it is almost as much fun as picking out fabric!

Darn! My printer is broken! My 8 year old is an artist in training too. She prides herself on being the “best colorer ever”. I’ll email the PDF to a friend so we can get a copy. She’d love to color your house!

I have to ask….what is the neighborhood color scheme? Is there foliage between homes and curb?

I live in SD where there are white houses lined up on the curb…..

I painted my 1910 Victorian home in color. (the base is Benjamin Moore paint historical~ close to your color now: Stratton Blue, Montgomery white, window trim under eaves, gingerbread and railings, Cottage Red on peaks and garage doors and all other trim tudor brown.. ).

One of the old vanguard in town, told me my paint choices reminded them of chocolate mint chip ice cream with a cherry on top :). Yet I also have had strangers at my front door asking me who, how and where they can get my color.

It does blend well with the neighborhood and has set a trend for more color on our Main Street.

So, think about the neighborhood too. I love the color you have now, accents maybe?

Good Luck, it is a daunting task….I swear, with you as You as my witness, I will never paint my outside of my house again. HUGE HOUSE AND 24X60 garage/quilting studio……NEVER is a serious word! 😉
