275: Maintenance…..

275: Maintenance…..

Maintenance…..it really wears on me, you now?…often I would much rather be doing something else.   Maintenance often seems to be the “word” of my life……and I am not so sure I like that.   Quite a few of my fabric peeps have come up with their Word of the Year.   Betz’s is Reach.  Lizzy’s is Abandon.  Susanne’s is Release.  I really don’t want Maintenance to be my word of the year, even though to ignore the basics of it would be less than helpful.  The biggest maintenance is our home, the three acres it sits on, and all the paperwork in my life….I LOATHE paperwork, but America pretty much runs on it, doesn’t it?

I am trying to nail my word of the year down for the year….the fact that I haven’t started until the 30th of January to do this is  probably a key factor in what it should be.  It probably should be Focus…..but I also am lingering over Resolve.

I really wish I had an easy answer….but there never is, is there?   So I think I am going to make my word of  the Year more of a combination…(hows that for being non-committal) of Focus, Resolve, and Push… Pushing myself to keep at my goals and the other two words…

++++++++++++++++++++++

Can you tell the above was written by an English Major who loved Dickens more than Hemingway?   blah, blah, blah….thanks for sticking around for this next less wordy part–the pictures you came here for….

I love this picture of Linda and Bad Baby.and yes our beloved cat is named this for very good reasons…all of which anyone who likes things to be a certain way and owns a cat totally understands…

Here is a lost picture of my Wild World quilt for Fall Quilt Market 2010.  I love this shot of it, I can’t believe I missed it in the original post, so I wanted to make sure you saw it here too!

Here is a Sneak Peak of my next Moda Bake Shop project.   I started this in November or October….a bad time of year to start something…well, actually I started 3 other projects (at least) and this one just fell to the side but it is almost done now, so as soon as I get it quilted and bound….it should be coming to a computer screen near you… ( I had hoped to have this recipe posted by Valentine’s day as it is all over the red and whiteness of the season….but I don’t think it will make it now)…..it will still be a pretty quilt though…

I have two other Moda Bake Shop recipes lined up too…one in the fabulous Central Park by Kate Spain, and the next is in the new Spring French General  (can I just NOT get enough of that Frenchiness or what?)

And for things I am working on for even further out in the future here you go…….

and even though I hate Maintenance for a word for the year…I will still do it…  case in point, you wouldn’t have had this DELIGHTFUL missive to read without a little Maintenance from me here on the Blue Nickel Studios Blog.

Upcoming Blog events here……I am going to do a review of my own of  my friend BariJ’s new book Inspired to Sew, I get to test a tool and have a giveaway here of the same tool, and do my Palooza-ing party piece for you all as well.  All three of those posts have me pumped….

Sew-long for now….(oh, yeah, I do crack myself up as a matter of fact….ask my teenage kids…they’ll roll their eyes right along with you!!)

Scott

PS….let’s get back to the beginning……what’s YOUR word for the year?  I really want to know….you know, in case I need to add yours to my list of  ongoing words for the year…

  • Gosh just one word? I think I’ll go with Confidence. I will have, or at least fake, the confidence to get out and try for what I want.

The other is overwhelmed. I’ve got way too much on the go. I think I ran into a bit of trying too much at once when I decided to go for things!

I hear you on both those counts!! We will both keep Movin’ on, right?

  • I thought about this a bit, and my word for the year is definitely Next. If the end of 2010 and the first month of 2011 are any indicator I am coing to be racing just to keep up with all the nexts in front of me. I would have gone for overwhelmed as well, but I just don’t know if I am going to have the time to catch my breath and notice that I am feeling overwhelmed.

  • Hi Scott,
I finally used those wonderful fabrics you sent me ages ago and posted a pic with links on my blog.

It’s a bit bigger than doll size, so It will probably go on my daughter’s wall. Thanks again for your inspiration. As I was sewing and chosing border fabrics I kept asking “What would Scott put with that?”

  • I’ve seen several words floating around. Focus sounds like a good one for me. And important one. One that might require a bit of Adderall finally for me. It almost seems like it would make more sense for me to figure out the word at the end of the year because I feel like the future is really not in my control.

I love the Wild World quilt! I wish I had gotten some of that fabric–I’ll have to keep my eyes open for some.

I was an English major, too, and I feel very self-conscious about my writing when I go back and read it and look at all the run-ons, etc. Oh, well!

Mine has to be Balance. Balance between rest and play, rest and creativity, sleep and activity. I have ME/CFS and have had for more than 20 years. I am still struggling to achieve the vital balance between sickness and health

While reading your post, I thought of Steadfast….there’s something unshakable about that word that I wish fit me!

Oh, I love the words Focus, Resolve, and Push as your trio together. Perhaps it’s also a bit of the idea of the sum is more than the parts. After all you take a couple of letters from each one (Focus REsolve puSH) and it equals FRESH 😉
