239: Name the Prop Girls Contest!

239: Name the Prop Girls Contest!

And here we are finally at the Prop Girls Naming Contest…..initial introduction of this project is here on this post  …

First let me introduce you to our distinguished panel of Judges, who all own dolls similar to the Prop Girls that have joined my photo-shoot crew…… Now, I really don’t know much about dolls in general other than people really like them a lot, and my wife and daughter are always chattering about them…so I am not going to say which dolls my Guest Judges own.  You can ask them if you want.  So without further ado…please welcome….

Mary Abreu, self confessed Craft Addict and author of her first (of many) to be published book Little Girls, Big Style  with Stash Books.

Jennifer Davis, incredibly talented mother of two and sewist extraordinaire

And Patty Young, fabric and pattern designer of way more products than I can keep track of.

These wonderful ladies have agreed to be part of my panel of judges along with my wife and daughter to decide what these lovely new Prop Girls will be named……

Introducing Girl #1

And Girl # 2

I love naming everything living or not, just ask my wife…..and we don’t plan on having anymore kids, and I won’t get to decide my future grandkids names…so I am really looking forward to hearing what you come up with.

Here are the rules—they are pretty basic.

please post one comment for each girl and label them girl #1 or girl #2  here on this post.  You may enter as many times as you want. We will close the opportunity to enter on August 5th.  Then I will compile the list and the Panel of Judges will confer and pick our winners over the following weekend.  In the event we pick a name that had more than one entry, we will draw names out of  a hat here at the Blue Nickel….Feel free to embellish your name choice with mini biographical data about our girls to help shape out their personalities.  I can’t guarantee that will help your chances but it will be fun to read…..

Oh, and you will want to see the prizes…..

Prize for Girl #1’s name will be this fat quarter pack that I have cut out of my stash of Patty’s line debut line Andalucia…so it will they will be approximately cut fat quarters and already pre-washed

Prize for Girl #2’s name will be this roll of Layer Cake squares….

Okay….let the naming begin!! we are all looking forward to reading your entries..

Wow, I am the first to comment?! Let’s see, girl #1 reminds me of Cotton Candy, so I would name her C. C. (or Ceci)

And girl #2 reminds me of those doe eyed pictures from the late 60’s/early 70’s. (Not aging myself, am I?!) I think I would name her Dorie.

  • Girl #1 to me looks like Fuchsia. Now I realize that’s not a “real” name for a person. But it certainly could be. And the best part is, you know that 99% of the people who type it or spell it will spell it wrong. What a great conversation starter…”do YOU know how to spell fuchsia?”

  • Girl #2 looks just like Jessica from “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” just a more modern version. Especially in the first picture, where she’s sort of wistfully looking off in the distance…she’s dreaming of Kris Kringle coming to see her. Imagine how cute she’d be dressed up for the holidays!

Prop Girl #1 This girl has a way of looking into you and figuring out what you want before you know. She is an observer and knows what will work and what won’t. Do not be deceived by that far away look in her eyes. She is actually planning for every option and is ready to take action. These are wonderful qualities for a Blue Nickel Prop Girl. Please say hello to Maya.

Prop Girl #1 is not afraid to stand out in a crowd. She is comfortable with herself and it shows. She makes things happen and is very thorough. She works well with a minimal amount of supervision and gets excellent results. Her parents named her Amber Lynne, but she has chosen the name of Salamander.

  • Didn’t like the names I proposed on Twitter, eh? OK, I’ll try again …

Prop girl #1 is bird-like in her facial features, from her big blue eyes to her narrow nose to the down-like color of her skin. To me, she is Wren.

  • Prop girl #2 evokes the beauty of strength of the Russian people and seems to me to be a Nika, Sashenka (“defender & helper of mankind”), or Helina (“the light of the sun”).

Girl #1 was just released from the hospital after having a tracheotomy. She is very shy since the scar still shows. She was named Esme Michelle by her parents, but all the nurses just called her Pinky.

Girl #2 was born with that beautiful red hair. Her parents searched for a name that would do justice to her hair color and decided on Coral, which means any shade from dark pink to red. And her middle name is after a great-aunt (with lots of cash) named Jacqueline. And now Coral Jacqueline thinks her name is too long so she goes by C.J.

Girl No. 2: “Freesia” Her patience is as long as her bold red hair. Her heart is as big as her eyes. Her personality as sweet as the flowers she picks daily. The cottage she calls “home” is full of soft, over-stuffed vintage furnishings in muted shades of pink and blue. It’s quiet in the woods, where she lives with her husband and daughter. Life is good.

  • the girl #1 pink’s hair color reminds me of a line from the movie, steel magnolias. it goes something like this. the daughter (julia roberts) was getting married and they were discussing pink colors in a hair salon. she said the colors were called “blush” and “bashful”. the mother said they were “pink and pink”. but i did think the names blush and bashful were good ways to describe a shade of pink.

  • Her name is Adele and she is noble and serene. She sees our inner child when we need a friend. She doesn’t walk, she glides (those are gliding sneakers she is wearing). When she speaks to you absolutelyknow you are her very special friend. Her most important characteristic is her loyalty. Her favorite color is aqua, all shades, because it looks wonderful with her red hair and big brown eyes, and, besides, it is a very cool color. She protects her skin from the sun and is very careful not to freckle, which is very difficult because she love to be in her garden among the flowers.

Girl #1 should be Dulcibella, a combination of “sweet” and “pretty” in Latin, since she is both of those things! Plus it is a very unique name, and she’s a girl that definitely stands out!
    Thanks for the fun giveaway!

Girl #2 should be Tuuli, which means “wind” in Finnish. She has a very ethereal look about her.

    Girl #1 Kitka Karson

Kitka (Ukranian for kitten) is originally from the Midwest. However, after a feral cat rescue gone awry at Pepper Edge Farm, Indiana last year, Kitka has relocated to New York. Finding a homebase in The Village’s bohemian culture has been seamless for Kitka. She has even returned to her Midwest roots by volunteering at “CCM- Can’t Catch Me”, the city’s local feral cat rescue, most weekends. Her fellow volunteers have commented on her winning streak in office’s cat stare contests, and are amazed how her presence calms the new arrivals. Wearing skirts with trim the cats love to bat around, doesn’t hurt either. Short on words, Kitka hasn’t opened up much to her new found friends, especially about the incident at Pepper Edge Farm, but she has been observed “purring” when filling out her paperwork at the end of her weekend shift.

    Girl #2 Fern Dewdrop

Fern is from Charleston, South Carolina, and a master gardener at heart. Her specialty is nocturnal blooming plants as her allergy to titanium dioxide in sunscreen has limited her gardening to the twilight hours. (She is on Team Edward). You will find Fern tenderly tending to her gardens and keeping them weed free, while we are getting our beauty sleep. Several neighbors have been pleasantly surprised with a basket of fresh cut nocturnals from her garden, next to their morning paper on their porch. Some neighbors have reported seeing Fern in their own garden at night, weeding and mysteriously talking to their turnips. Fern once told her waitress at the local coffee shop that she gets the colors in her clothes from washing them in the sea foam at the water’s edge of Charleston’s shores, thankful that the city’s location is far from the Gulf.

Thank you for this fun giveaway. How fun it has been creating a history for these gals!!

Your ‘girls’ are so beautiful that I just want to hug them. But I’ll just hug my two 17 yr-old granddaughters, Kaylee & Emily. Kaylee is my blondie, so Girl #1 should be Kaylee.
And Emily has long gorgeous red hair, so Emily is the name for Girl #2

Girl No. 1 looks rather pixy-ish to me with her wonderful pink and slightly punkish hairstyle so Pixil is what keeps jumping into my head whenever I look at her.

Girl No. 2 definitely has a wistful far away look to her with those gorgeous large brown eyes and that lovely main of auburn hair. She seems rather Celtic but other worldly to me so I’d have to say something like Maeve would suit her.

Sorry, Jocelyn, but the contest is now over….winners were announced mid-day Pacific Standard Time 8/11/10..thanks for the great description though!!
